Editor Feature Request: Edit Goldmine Unit Counter

I am requesting a feature to be added to the World Editor that allows mapmakers to easily customize the “Goldmine Unit Counter” UI that was added to the Gameplay options in patch 2.0.1.

A few options to come to mind:

  • PREFERRED — Add a field (or fields) to the Gold Mine Ability that allow users to manually set the number to display for the maximum workers (for example, setting the field to 10 sets the denominator in the UI to 10 instead of 5). There is precedent for this already with the Blighted Gold Mine Ability, which has a “Max Number of Miners” field that is respected in the unit counter UI.
  • Add an option to the Game Interface or Gameplay Constants menu that allows users to override the text in the worker count UI box, or at the very least change the denominator.

With the unit counter enabled, Goldmines in use with the standard “Gold Mine Ability” always display n/5, where n is the number of workers using the mine. The denominator of 5 is not editable in any way, and is not responsive to changes in the Gold Mine Ability. For instance, if one sets the mine capacity to 2 workers instead of 1, effectively allowing 10 workers to saturate the mine, the UI will still show n/5. This can be confusing for players who assume that the gold mine can only take 5 workers.

In contrast, the Blighted Gold Mine Ability has a “Max Number of Miners” field that does modify the UI for the mine with the ability. Similarly, increasing the “Cargo Capacity” for the Load (Entangled Gold Mine) ability adds visible slots to the cargo UI for any entangled mine with the ability.

While these two fields have other implications, they suggest that there is already a strong framework to allow the new Goldmine Unit Counter to inherit values from the abilities of the gold mine. It would be super helpful to be able to leverage this custom mines using the base Gold Mine Ability with non-standard worker saturations.
