Constant 100+ Ping - Routing Spike at Blizzard Ashburn Node

I have been hosting Warcraft III custom games without issue for 4 months, but recently my ping has jumped to a constant 100–160ms. This occurs even when hosting private lobbies where I am the only player. My local internet connection is high-speed and stable, with no lag in other games.

I ran a traceroute to the game server IP and identified a significant latency spike the moment the connection enters Blizzard’s network.

Tracing Details:

  • Region: Americas
  • ISP: [Insert your ISP name here, e.g., Comcast, AT&T]
  • Issue: Latency jumps from ~60ms to 159ms+ at hop 6.

Traceroute Results: 6 62 ms 159 ms 61 ms ae1-br01-eqdc2.as57976.net [137.221.72.33]

The lag clearly begins at the Blizzard backbone router in Ashburn, VA (Equinix DC2). It appears my traffic is being backhauled or misrouted once it hits AS57976.

Could the network team please check the status of the NA proxy servers or the routing tables for this specific node?

This most likely points to an issue with your ISP. You can do the command in the cmd: ping -t (website of choice) and see if u have periodic packet loss which explains ur trouble. Also check if your dad moved your router someplace else recently as this can also have an impact.

100 ping is totally playable. Hell when war3 was new 100 was about as low as I ever could have seen.

And what is telling you that this router is controlled by Blizzard? it sure looks like a random backbone internet router to me.

cause i did the testing in cmd and nothing changed about my internet its also fine in every other game but its nothing any of you guys can do anyway unless you work on the w3 reforged team on blizz lol, also 100 ping is unplayable for dota and melee

People say this all the time but it doesn’t mean anything. You can play 200 games that work fine it doesn’t mean it’s a device controlled by Blizzard that’s causing the problem. Their server is in some particular data center, they don’t control anything but their servers- not the data center. It can be a problem at the data center or somewhere downstream from it that you simply don’t happen to pass through otherwise. And you really didn’t answer the question anyway- that address you cited does not appear to be one of Blizzard’s servers. anything with a gibberish. net address like the one you posted is an internet infrastructure router, either within or near a data center. Blizzard does not control this. The only thing Blizzard could do, if it’s actually within the datacenter hosting their servers, is say “Hey, NOC! Something’s wrong with your network equipment!” and the datacenter will deal with it.

And the other thing is, you’re complaining an issue that isn’t even outside of tolerance. 100 ish ping is totally playable and only an elitist pro gamer would complain about that in a game like this- especially in a solo custom game where there is no element of competition. And if you’re actually playing such a map, and not purely as a test, you’re better off playing it in single player mode where your ping will be zero.

you dont work for blizzard stop pretending you know anything and i did alot more testing than that its obviously on their end and their sh1t reforged servers / client i never ever had issues like this in tft. Im telling you 100 ping is trash and makes my melee and dota lobbies unplayable im sorry a noob like you dosent understand but its unplayable for me, now you have any more douchey nothing burgers to say pretending you have a clue what youre talking about?

You don’t have to work for Blizzard to know how the internet works. I have a bachelors in computer science and minored in networking. This is a topic which I am reasonably knowledgable on. I don’t claim to know everything, but this is a topic I have spent some amount of time studying.

But I have to thank you for this comment because too many people accuse me of actually working for Blizzard because I don’t say enough mean things about them. which, you’re correct, I don’t work for them.

It’s not “obviously on their end” at all. Datacenter issues are not Blizzard’s end- they’re on the datacenter’s end. The server/router you mentioned in your post does not have a blizzard.com or battle.net address. Instead it’s a jumbled mishmash of numbers and letters, which is typical of datacenter servers and backbone internet routers. The issue is almost certainly beyond Blizzard’s control. And it’s mostly but not completely beyond your control as well. You may be able to bypass the router or server where the latency is increasing by using a VPN. But that’s about all you can do.

whataver dude ive seen your douche azz before acting like a genius when you dont have a clue what your talking about and you have proof that i am the problem here, i remember a guy who uploaded an ascii table for grid and you claimed him of copying your guides and talking so much smack and here you are stroking ur ego with nothingburgers last reply from me pal hope i can find a way to block people so i dont see u in my next post begging blizz to fix their issue

believe whatever you want man, but I have the education to back it up, so you can be a jerk if you like but that doesn’t make you right.

Seriously man, it’s not even that complicated. you don’t need a PhD to understand how this stuff works.

you can beg them all you like but they can’t fix your issue because it’s not in their control. In fact it is very likely they’re experiencing continuous DDOS attacks right now based on posts in their other game forums.

Sorry I hurt your feelings.

Thank you ever so much for your insightful contribution.

Anyway, if yall folks need more evidence of issues out of Blizzard’s hands, here you go.

Bachelors degree in computer science. Did an independent study on networking. Took the CCNA (Cisco Certified Network Associate) exam. University of Maine at Farmington. Happy to show you my degree if you like. But I’m sure based on your response you’ll just say I copied it from someone else off the internet or used AI to generate it or come up with other BS excuse.

Don’t you have anything better to do than to pick on someone just because you’re jealous of their post count? Notice how none of the people who act like you here seem to notice or care about things like that?

No, I think YOU don’t like me because of a number next to my IGN. I was not being condescending, and I wasn’t bragging about knowledge or anything, until YOU decided to pick me apart. You’re the one here who needs to clean up their act. Anyone who wants to hate on someone for having some critical thinking skills and a little bit of intelligence really needs to reevaluate their priorities in life.

All it takes is anyone looking at your post history to see that you are far more guilty of being condescending and rude than I as well as the vast majority of users on this forum.

It’s funny how I’ve also made plenty of posts critical of Blizzard and yet you pop in here anytime you see me to accuse me of white knighting. What you don’t seem to understand is that I post based on facts (or at least, what I believe to be true at the time of posting, in some cases), and not out of hate. I’m not going to just dunk on Blizzard in every single post just because it’s cool. If they screw something up I’m happy to criticize them for that. But I’m not going to do that in cases where it’s clearly not their fault that something (like a DDOS attack) is happening.
