Clearing "The Culling" on Hard? (Human Campaign)

well, at least i won on hard mode, the winner writes history

real winners destroy everything on the map <3

even the timed “siege” missions but then the cinematics just make no sense :frowning:

I just went with footmen and mass rifleman, with some priests and sorceresses at the end. Didn’t even upgrade any knights beyond the two starting ones. Only fought Mal’ganis twice, otherwise you can honestly outkill him.

On my victory, it was by the skin of my teeth because he warped on top of me when I was at 91 kills but he couldn’t kill my army before I had the 100.

A very easy way to clear this mission on hard is to keep all the units you produce at your own base. Never make them out of town, the purpose of your army is to deal with the defense of your base.
Early in the game, send only 3-4 knights out to clear the houses. Their insane move speed will outrun all of Malganis army, which will try during the whole mission to follow your knights. 3 or 4 knights is enough to clear a house in about 15 seconds. So, just run around the map, staying far away from Malganis’s units. You can even run to the other side of the map if you need to, since it will take several minutes for Malganis to reach your knights. Once you aggro Malganis, he will follow you forever.
Whenever you come across named units in the houses, again, run away. Do not try to kill them. Just focus on other houses that are far away from Malganis.
When I thought about this strategy I won on my first try, with Malganis having only 35 humans converted

Reforged campaign has been pathetic easy compared to original. Especially this map.

Just tech as much as you can, let Mal’Ganis get a strong head start. Once you kill him the first time, you pretty much won the game, as you will continue to kill him as soon as he spawns again (Hes not gonna get any more civilians).

Leave a small force and mass towers to defend your base. Always build you base smart (build your base like a circle, buildings should act as “shields” to units and towers, so that a huge enemy army will be bottle-necked between your buildings when it attacks you).

I ended up having to restart it once because I forgot about the undead base attacking.

On my second attempt, I beat it, but only after we both destroyed the whole city and even then it was because I had part of my army engage him while I ran to a house to get the last few villagers I needed.

I did not do especially well at it, but I think I went 2 or 3 barracks and produced a combination of footmen, riflemen, and knights. Early on, I had issues with Mal’Ganis (due to sleep and his carrion wave spell or whatever that damage wave spell is) and would avoid him or run away were possible. As I remember, he was level 8 while you only reach level 6 or 7, and it didn’t help that every time you beat him the supporting army would get stronger.

I actually found the Reforged version to be tougher on hard mode. 5 citizens per house + closer houses means that Mal’Ganis won’t fall behind as easily. I also don’t recall Mal’Ganis having as many minions and using Inferno on hard mode.

what a terrible strategy

The classic team arent good rts designers.

The Purple base is a low effort curbstomp and sparsely defended.

Theres a reason it was an impregnable fortress in Classic where your HEAVY ARMOR knights that take 150% damage from piercing would get melted… Armor tuning aside. You could clear this base out with just footmen in reforged.

Yeah I can relate. What I did was, sending 3 groups of 3 knights to each infested house, and kill the peasants before they turn into undead(This way they have less HP and still counts as a death, so it will be quicker). Also, you don’t need to have Arthas present when killing them. I kept Arthas busy fighting again Mal’ghanis most of the time.

I dropped two barracks, trained every Knight upgrade in the Blacksmith, and pumped out as many knights as I could. I ran Arthas in a direction not where Malganis is and just focused on buildings with the knights. When purple attacks your town… ignore them. Who cares? You have enough knights to fight off Malganis a couple times. The AI doesn’t seem interested in killing your whole town anyways and they will leave buildings.

IMO the worst thing you can do is try to defend your town.

I would LOVE to see you take out the Undead base on HARD difficulty in March of the Scourge - you won’t.

I did it in 15 minutes, thought it was a fluke so I did it again and I nailed it both times. This is Hard mode.

Build order.

  1. 2 peasants (rally point lumber)
  2. 2 footman (rally point tower)
  3. when first peasant comes out, use him to build a blacksmith
  4. make another footman
  5. with a lumber peasant build a farm in front of your tower, make 4 farms and 4 guard towers over the course of the match
  6. charge in with Arthas and team. Attack always 2 buildings at a time.
    —->MALGANIS ACTIVE<—-
  7. Make 4 Riflemen at base to defend
  8. learn advanced lumber harvesting from lumber mill
  9. rotate clockwise from the western do it of the map while killing groups.
  10. while doing this keep spawning footman the whole time, and riflemen at the towers with a rally point to defend
  11. make a castle too
  12. Arthas will be ambushed by Mal’Ganis at the top of the road, move counterclockwise and use a single footman to run away while distracting Malganis
  13. keep moving around while killing buildings
  14. bring Arthas back to base to grab more troops, bring some of the defenders back with you into Stratholme
  15. keep killing buildings, ignore Malganis
  16. play cat and mouse with map Hanks while killing buildings
  17. use single footman as distractions for Malganis
  18. you win if you keep doing this

The purple minions only attack your base if you kill Malganis, and his group will decimate you. This strategy is at most 20 minutes and at least 15 minutes of you do it properly.

Use the dwarf base as a distraction, wait for enemy hero to attack, while he’s attacking let one group of guard towers finish him off, and while he’s attacking you invade and one shot base with an army of 1 siege tank, Arthas, Muradin, riflemen, and footman. 1 shot.

i have a youtube video up ? Or maybe had? who knows countdown to extinction still up

Reforged march of the scourge and countdown to extinction are a joke. this is classic with the Armies of Azeroth teams mod.

Isn’t March of the Scourge, I don’t care about Countdown, Countdown is easy.

i didnt feel like that mission was hard you can just ignore malganis and kill the people faster, in fact you can send 1 unit to get chase by malganis forces trough the entire map now the last human mission for me was impossible on hard i have no idea how to beat it xD

you must be terrible then. Frostmourn is an afk win level.

go play countdown to extinction on classic and actually wipe out the bases in 20 mins.

March of the Scourge is EASY on Reforge ad is Countdown.

it just seems impossible because you’re probably awful

countdown to extinction has no 2x MURLOC sorc heroes, rarely used chaos golems, less towers, less waves, less units trained, theres a enemy handicap active ON HARD MODE so they have less HP, hp of flesheaters is cut by 500, and there is no Glaive bouncing murlocs anymore, you get TFT stats, and grunts cost 200 gold not 235, upkeep for TFT.

Yes countdown is easy. because reforge is a easy joke.

Rush to get the villagers first with the basic group they give you when you start and then produce a lot of knights to keep the base safe, same strategy I always used
