Black Screen On Launch (2025)

I just bought and installed the game (I bought the war chest or whatever it was called). When I launch the game, it launches a black screen. I can’t hear anything and there is no indication that the app is doing anything.

I’ve tried playing around with launch commands and forcing nvidia gpu in windows settings for blizzardlauncher but nothing has worked.

Try these:

  1. Go to Documents>Warcraft III folder. Open the War3preferences.txt file. Search for “seenintromovie”. Set it equal to 1. Save the War3preferences.txt file. Try launching again.

If that doesn’t work:

  1. In the same file, search for “windowmode” (it will be close to the very bottom). Set it equal to 1. Save it. Try launching again.

unfortunately it’s the most common issue with many potential causes from a setting being wrong to drivers being out of date to the game’s documents folder being read only.

That last one seems to be more common than it should be. Go to your Documents folder and find the warcraft III folder inside. right click on it, click properties, and make sure the “read only” box is empty. Hit OK and try again.

Hello. I am sad to say I am also having similar problems running WCIII Reforged. My story: A family member gifted me the game for my birthday a couple of years ago. I installed it on my low end 4/4/128 Windows Netbook, and it worked well enough on lower settings. But that computer died and I replaced it with a refurbed MacBook Air M1 8GB which has been generally a fantastic purchase. I have been able to use Porting Kit to play old Windows games like WCII BNET, and a MMPG Legend of Mir III that runs DX11 really well despite the basic RAM.

So, I have set up a Port for WCIII for Win11 that runs BlizzardNet and recognises my WCIII launcher. It downloaded the updates, and suggests the game is ready to play. The tips above helped me reach the “Lions Gate” screen but none of the keystrokes/clicks open the game. I also needed to adjust the resolution and window sizes in the War3Preferences.txt file. The old laptop was a bit slow at this stage, but eventually opened the game. But this is where I am stuck…..

I noted there is a new version 6.6.0 of Porting Kit that has the latest Wine etc and optimising that might help, so I’ll give that ago maybe tomorrow. Is there a MacOS version that works on Battlenet? I’d appreciate any advice.

Soo yeah I guess you don’t know.

Open the battle.net app and install the game from there. Download the battle.net app if you haven’t. If you install the game on a Mac with the it should be the Mac version…

Also I might advise you to change your battletag name. I can’t actually quote you directly because the forums say it contains a word that’s not allowed.
