All news about Reforge

they do not have an obligation to release it in 2019 when they set a december 31 release date. december 31 is an international holyday and no games is released that day.

i know how the gaming business works and multiple companies sets a december 31 release date as a placeholder until they know the actual date. it was done for warcraft 3 and kingdom hearts 3. likely others but, i do not know which.

no, it will not. the release date have not been released, blizzard is operating with a placeholder. there is no federal court in my country, only state.

square-enix did the same thing with kingdom hearts 3 and got no trouble.

just like they did for WOW’s website with Classic art.

¿How do Japanese even play games if they don’t have personal computers?

Don’t you need a computer to play console games?

I dunno, I’m Russian.

It’s like people in Happy’s chat asking whether Kael is alive in WoW. In 2019, Karl!

console games runs on consoles which is specialised computers built for gaming and watching movies only. consoles can be used for other things as well but, they are not normal computers. kingdom hearts 3 is not selling well in norway. it was not sold out in platekompaniet on release day and is still not sold out. that could however be caused by the bad status games have in norway.

Diablo 1 is released on December 31st, 1996.

could be. i got it either in 1997 or 1998 when i was home from boarding school during the weekends.

I believe they are deliberately holding back on all information as a way of getting back at us for our disdain for Diablo Immortal.

Where is the law defining that the game has to be release on or before that date?

I’ve found nothing on this, and all I’ve heard from you is ‘it’s from Hive, and Hive can be trusted’, which isn’t the law.

I’m honestly curious, because none of my searches yielded any actual results. I’ve actually found information that states the contrary; that any pre-release date is not bound by law.

Thank you for providing the article

I see that this is the same case that I’ve found. Unfortunately, this only covers the Blizzard site providing a vague date rather than ‘Coming Soon’, it doesn’t actually cover anything regarding them having to meet that date.

The only stipulation is that the company must provide refund options; which Blizzard already does. So what this tells me is that Blizzard could indefinitely push back the game (not that they will) and it would all be within the law given that they give refund options (which they already do, even if not blatantly stated on their site).

It depends on the situation.

Realistically speaking, I think the game is on schedule. I don’t think there is really anything impacting them from releasing on schedule, and the only thing preventing them from reaching their own deadline is their own internal determination of what they feel is a final product. I mean, we’re talking about a game that’s already made.

I think that updating the systems is large bite to chew, and we see and know of some of the technical stuff that’s caused right now. AT doesn’t work, Custom games got broken, people get disconnected, hell they had to take RoC out of the equation entirely. And that tells me that they’re willing to go that route and put it on the backburner as ‘wishlist stuff we will tackle after the game is released’.

As far as assets and campaign content goes, I think they’re done with a vast majority of stuff and are going through the lengths of polish and integration. Even if they had all the assets finished, there’s plenty of things to optimize to get the game running above 30 frames per second. If they implement realtime Raycasting, then they need to optimize big time.

However, there is one thing that I can see potentially pushing the game back to a later date. Simply said, Executive decisions and Marketting have huge sway in game release. We all like to think that it’s the developer controlling when a game is ‘ready to release’ by means of it being balanced and playable. Nope! Release targets are defined by marketting and production, because they are aiming to hit time-targets that will optimize sales. This could be timed with some big marketting push, or some tie in to another company’s game release to take the steam away from the competition, or just releasing because another one of their games is hitting a dip in players done with that patch/season’s content.

And yeah, those kind of marketting reasons tend to outweigh whatever pre-order losses they get. Reaching a wider audience that hasn’t heard of the game is much more important than retaining some lost pre-orders, which usually end up coming back eventually anyways once the game gets released.

I feel like the argument that they have to release before 12/31/2019, or Blizzard faces repercussions doesn’t work, because of the wording in client.
“Warcraft III: Reforged is EXPECTED to release by 12/31/2019.”
Meaning they never set a concrete date, and its change is still an option. I think if this case ever saw a court, wording would be key.
