I am having 0.2 0.3 FPS in some games that I had 100 FPS before the patch!

here we go again

Nitpick: You don’t have 2x less of something, you have half as much of something, or 0.5x of something.

While I don’t see any FPS issue on my end, I instead see +50 ping on every game in the custom game list. Which isn’t exactly cool either, to be fair.
PTR was fine, so… wondering how they broke it this time!

I am not talking about ping. From what I can see - the shadow option is bugging and is always on high - even when turned off! It is causing a mass FPS spike in custom maps with mass unit spawn.

I know what you’re talking about. I’m just pointing out a different issue.
That aside-

idk man, I played footmen frenzy with literally hundreds of units on screen and it was perfectly playable.

You might be encountering the issue where your settings file is broken or got forced to read-only. Try deleting war3preferences.txt and see if that fixes it (you’ll have to reconfigure your options again, except for custom keys which are stored in a different file)

I have the same issue as you. This issue was fixed after an update in October last year.
Now, the fps issue has reappeared

Update- it’s not the shadow option. Tried every option there is and still get huge FPS spikes in some maps.

Same here - HUUUGE fps decrease. Has to be fixed asap, some maps with many units on the map are borderline unplayable now.

Hello.

Can you please provide?–

Which game mode you’re playing?
Is it multiplayer, campaign, or a custom map?
If it’s a custom map, which map is it?
How long does it take for the FPS to go down?
What are your computer specs?
Which region?

Thank you.

The last patch is really good. The only thing I dislike is the Dark Ranger changes… it feels like 2026 is the Dark Ranger’s year, but that’s a very minor issue.

About the FPS, it could be related to system settings outside the game as well, like Nvidia driver optimizations or software from manufacturers such as Asus.
On my side the game even feels smoother.

Many people playing the custom map Risk Europe ( GitHub - Warcraft-3-Risk/wc3-risk-system ) (which uses w3ts and generates LUA from it) have the same issue, FPS is dramatically lower. At the start of the game looking at water without units I always had ~300 FPS, now I have 220 at game start. In the process of the game I drop down to 20 FPS or even below which is basically unplayable where I never dropped below 60 usually, even after 2 hour games, but the FPS drop is huge in general, even at the start looking at units. It seems that mostly(only?) AMD CPU’s are affected, I have an AMD Ryzen 9 7950X3D 16-Core Processor (4.20 GHz). Playing in Europe.

An urgent fix or rollback would be appreciated, as this is basically making the game unplayable for us.

I am also on EU server, (but I have intel inside i7-9700k). No issues.

Custom maps are not something that Blizzard is responsible for, that is up to the map creator to fix.

custom map with a lot of untis, fps drop from the beginning, AMD

I mean, it’s not, but if the issue is something within the game and not a design defect in the map itself then they should be listening.

That said. This doesn’t seem to simply be about lots of things being on the screen, it seems to be about maps that use certain functionality.

As I noted earlier, I played maps like footmen frenzy that just spam the map wit hundreds of units and I had no FPS issues whatsoever. However, specific maps seem to have new problems. If the map maker changes nothing and performance decreases, it’s the fault of the game, not the map.

So as much as you were expecting me to just side with Blizzard, yea it sure seems to me like something broke. It just doesn’t affect everything.

Looks like this is effecting AMD users more! I don’t know what exactly changed with Lua garbage collector - but some maps are total trash now!

As for the statement that Blizzard is not responsible for custom maps - part of the reason Warcraft 3 became a hit and it is played to this day is because of custom maps! Some maps have own games now! People are spending years developing a map and one update is making it a trash - who is responsible?

Eh, I don’t expect anything from you except to provide your own viewpoint. You also usually provide it in a respectful manner, which goes a lot farther than I see some people do on the internet in general.

As for the other stuff you mentioned, fair enough. I usually just don’t think people should be asking for something to be reverted because it only affects certain custom games if the easier solution for all involved might be to have the map creators see if the bug that the map now has can be fixed within the maps themselves.
That said, it does remind me of something; Blizzard does claim that all custom maps made these days are their property in their EULA. So that makes my original comment moot and also incorrect.

You know what, I take back what I said the first time.

That wasn’t really for you, it was for the people who constantly accuse me of white knighting.

don’t start this nonsense up again. If it actually is affecting AMD users more it’s because there are more of them.

No one here as even specified what CPUs they’re using so I don’t know where you got your info to decide that more AMD users are affected. If you have data to support this notion, then sure, I’ll acknowledge it, but you can’t just say this without something to support it.

FPS does not decrease with game time. Instead, it decreases from the beginning (compared to the previous version)

It has nothing to do with this.

It has nothing to do with this.

all

yes

I have a software called OBS, which clearly records my FPS after the game starts (before January 26th, I recorded War3 videos for multiple time periods),

The FPS issue I mentioned only occurs when opening the game with different versions of War3, running the same map, and selecting a coordinate axis based on time. The coordinate axis above represents the old version of War3, while the coordinate axis below represents the new version of War3. The FPS in different time periods is always lower in the new version than in the old version.
If you need to see a video, I can use Adobe Premiere to combine two videos and upload them to a public website for you to watch.
