Scmdraft custom map with unit settings

Hi. This week a relative of mine for the first time played Star craft one and I thought I would make him a fun custom map for nostalgia. I got scmdraft to my computer and started editing, took a moment to find where some stuff are…

I am not sure if all the sound waves were available back then without importing them to scmdraft map files, which is great, but I made a search engine run, and it seems custom portraits do not work anymore even if you place them in portrait folder in directory?

Is it really 2025 and making a silly map for editing has gone worse by remastered? I did not really do modding even back then, but I managed to create my own heroes with custom sounds and images? That is only for sounds now?!

AFAIK Scmdraft 2 is not a modding tool. It is purely mapping.
I think what you specifically ask for can be made through EUDs, but it is not worth your time trying to learn it for something this small.

I really doubt that you made units with custom sounds and portraits unless you meant that you played wav sounds with triggers.

No I did not do the portraits and sounds myself, but there was a lot of those floating around back then, and when you used the correct name for a portrait set and placed it in the Starcraft directory, it read those custom portrait files over the game ones. It stopped working with remastered, since it would no longer work like that.

It was same for the sounds. If you had … was it mono 41000 wav you could make the game use those sound files, as long as the sound names were excatly the same as the unit you wanted to replace.

I understand you doubt me, but it worked.

EDIT: True, it was hardly modding, since you had to put the image and sound files yourself into the correct location in the Starcraft directory, and it had to be taken out, if you wanted to play the game without them, since they were no map related but almost like a sticker over the original sounds and portraits, but it was fun when it worked.
