ScmDraft 2 - Alternative starcraft map editor

There also is a screenshot gallery with an overview of the different editing options online here. Many of those features should be familiar if you have used staredit before.

to all people on the website "stormcoast-fortress " there is an alpha download it … it is the newest and will you let launch it …

I have added a new build and an installer version to the alpha download list. This version also searches for starcraft in the default installation directory, and removes some of the debug messages during game data loading. Otherwise it is unchanged to the July 9th build.

It is likely that the editor may not be launched when starcraft is running - I am searching for workarounds that do not involve copying the entire game data. I think launching starcraft after opening the editor should work fine.

Last version rocks, everything runs perfectly. Hats off to Sinsanity (boo to SC:R team for destroying everything! BOO!).

Thanks!

New version with one change: It has an extra error message for the case that the data could not be loaded because starcraft is running.

It is possible to launch scmdraft and then launch starcraft.

If anything else is not working with 1.23 let me know. Otherwise this will probably be turned into a release on sunday. (Out of town tommarow)

So, what do you say?

I currently have no plans to open source the editor.

I see. Sad, but It’s your call.
So, maybe there is any chance of having Blizzard distribute it alongside StarCraft files or something like that? Having to keep track of yet another software’s pace and keep it updated is a bothersome.

So everything works now, but it seems I have to scan and repair each time I restart my computer and want to open scmdraft. Anyone else having to do this?

You can’t launch scmdraft when starcraft is running, but it shouldn’t trigger scan and repair.

Hello,

As StarEdit is now officially deprecated and SCMDraft 2 the “official” way to edit StarCraft maps, do you plan to translate the UI for non English users ?
If needed I can make of help or help with the French translation.

Translating / reworking UI to be language independent is currently not on my list. If I can figure out how to load localized data with 1.23 (It was working before that) then I can load the localized game data for unit names. However revamping the UI to use localized data is a huge undertaking, and that isn’t even including the work needed to create the translation.

If you made it Open Source, someone else would bother taking the task of making it multilanguage. But again, it’s your call, and your will.

All things have a beginning and an ending, the only way to ensure something will stand the test of time is by allowing the source code to be open, thus even if the project dies, someone else can keep it alive.

So yea not being able to open both scmdraft and BW sucks right now, I’m from Australia and my red bars make people joining my game alot slower then youd think, never lags unless a EU player joins us and well thats a bad combination anyway I digress.

So yea I spend alot of time waiting for my games to fill and scmdraft was my past time while waiting now I cant use it :frowning:

Anyway love the new drag select tool in the tileset index! Used it to death! Keep up the great work.

You can open scmdraft before opening starcraft, that should work fine. I will be checking with the devteam on whether it is possible to get that working again.

Yea nah the Gateways wont show if SCMDRAFT is open before I launch the game, I think “it” thinks its hacking the MPQ so it wont let me go online.

Interesting, I always only tried single player. Its a point I will mention.

If you have room on the drive you can copy the entire SC install and point scmdraft at it.

I have an issue with the “Set next scenario” trigger…
At first, I wasn’t sure what text to put in (I’m used to just selecting the file in StarEdit), but then I found that if the next scenario file was in the same directory, I just had to type the file name in. Well, that works for some scenarios but not all… so I’m confused!
What’s the solution? Thanks!

One other thing…
I still have an old version of StarEdit installed. I started to make a map in scmdraft, kept everything legal (placements, etc.), and then saved. Thought I might be able to load it in StarEdit, but it’s not recognised. Does scmdraft save files differently or something?

I just tried multiplayer, worked for me.

Set next scenario: I do not know exactly how SC searches for the map. I can add a “Browse” button to select the file.

One idea: If you used the new ramp doodads, you need to use the staredit version that was included with 1.22 and not an older one.
