I am still having this problem after the latest patch. PTR works for now, but there are pretty much 0 online games.
Any update on whether another patch is coming or a rollback is possible to a previously working version?
I was honestly quite happy with the performance back then, so if there is an option to roll back I’d take it.
And yes, I’ve updated my Intel graphics drivers to the latest version, so it’s a Starcraft bug.

The original issue in the thread you posted in was resolved a while ago, and the Classic team changed it to where the game would still launch after clicking through that message pop up.
The PTR is actually running an older version of the game (1.23.4 versus the current live version 1.23.5) so that would make sense if it still works there since the changes weren’t implemented in that version.
Can you post a DxDiag so we can check that out?

- In the Run window type dxdiag and press Enter.
- In the DirectX window, click Save All Information.
- Name the file “dxdiag” and save it to your Desktop. Open the new dxdiag file with Notepad.

This definitely is the latest driver for your card. I’m wondering if we can’t detect this driver through your Windows Management Instrumentation service for some reason. Can you try the following for me?

Press Windows+Q and type this into the search bar that pops up:
cmd -
Right-click on Command Prompt and select Run as administrator
-
Enter the following commands, one at a time, pressing Enter after each. Any time you get a confirmation prompt, confirm the prompt. One of the commands may also tell you the WMI service is already started. This is okay.
net stop winmgmt
winmgmt /resetrepository
net start winmgmt
Now, exit the command prompt and restart your computer, then retest the game.

Thanks for the suggestion. I’ve tried that which I assume rebuilds the WMI class database but it didn’t seem to work.

Okay, in that case we’d want to rule out things that can fight us for access to your driver information. Usually that’s going to be having the game installed in a weird place like a FAT32 external drive (yours is on C:, so we can rule that out.) or a security problem or issue with your admin permissions.
Try temporarily uninstalling any third party security programs and testing from a new admin account if that fails.

I will try with a new admin account, I don’t have any 3rd party security software outside of Windows Defender. However so far SC is the only game with which I have this issue (and it used to work just fine before those patches)

Thought of something else that you can try too that may help. Wipe the driver with Display Driver Uninstaller and then start fresh.
- Download DDU here
- Click on the first link under “Announcements” titled Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU). Then click the “Official Download Here” link to start the download.
- Run the .exe file and extract the contents to the default location. Open the new folder and run the Display Driver Uninstaller.
- You will get a pop-up saying it is recommended to reboot in Safe Mode, feel free to ignore this if you are not familiar with how to get into Safe Mode. To start the removal process, click on the driver type on the right side first, then click “Clean and restart”
- Once the PC restarts, go ahead and download the current drivers here: https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/29802/Intel-Graphics-Driver-for-Windows-15-33-?wapkw=i5-3210M
- Run the driver installer and use the default/recommended install steps.

Sorry for taking so long, but I didn’t have opportunity to test.
Some good news!
I’ve first tested the driver removal method with DDU from safe mode, re-installed, with no success.
I then tried by creating another windows admin account and under that account, Starcraft works! I still get the warning both before game starts and in-game about graphics driver being too old, but at least it doesn’t crash!
Any idea why it works on a separate windows account but not in my main?

That is definitely odd. It may perhaps be an issue with the local user files or the registry for your main user account. You could try clearing out the Starcraft registry entries on the main account to see if that helps.
- Uninstall Starcraft via the Battle.net app by going to Options -> Uninstall game
- Press Windows key + R to open the Run window
- In the box type regedit and press Ok
- In the registry editor navigate to the location:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Blizzard Entertainment - Right-click on the Starcraft folder and select Delete. Close the registry editor
- Press Windows key + R again, type documents, press Ok
- In Documents right-click the Starcraft folder and select Delete
- Reinstall Starcraft through the Battle.net app again

Thanks, I did, I uninstalled everything and then ran a full search in the registry and removed all the stray reg keys, but still no luck.
Anyways, looks like it is a problem with my user after all, because with the new user I do get the warning but at least I can click through and play. Thanks again for the suggestions in getting it to work.
