Playing along nicely, them my pc just stops, total shutdown except the power light on the tower. Absolutely nothing else, hard restart required. Happens repeatedly.

Sounds like a faulty part or your gpu card is failing. If it’s your gpu you can run something like furmark if it locks up during that then you know it’s about to die. Start by opening event viewer and checking the log files look under windows logs/system and look for the times it crashes that could tell you the cause.
