Want increased upload limits for arcade? Please read this:

Over the past few years, my friend Cryswar has been working on “The Swarm Reborn”, a massive overhaul of the HOTS campaign featuring new missions, a custom written story, new enemies, new mutations/strains, new unity choices, a commander system featuring new rosters (playable Terran/Protoss/Primal Zerg/Infested and more!), and many more features.

This mod was planned for arcade to be available for coop, with a potential LOTV equivalent down the line. This was a massive project with almost 1 million views on YouTube on GGG’s archives channel throughout the playthrough.

However, he will run into the issue of asset and map upload limits. Blizzard has previously raised the upload limit for certain content creators if they applied for it.

I’ve contacted Blizzard’s PR email, called their HQ directly, reached out to former members of the SC2 team, and submitted a ticket. Aside one former team member saying he believes most of the old SC team is gone and wasn’t sure who would be able to help us, but wanted updates on the situation as it progresses, I only received a response via my ticket.

Blizzard’s response to this request is that due to publishing being reintroduced recently, they currently have no way of increasing upload limits. However, they allege that the Blizzard forums are highly monitored and should the community demonstrate an interest in this feature, it is possible they will reinstate said feature.

Maybe this is a generic PR response by Blizzard, but it’s also potentially a chance for the community to demonstrate how valued this feature would be. Everyone stands to benefit from this program if it returns, players and content creators alike. Many people that I know have been inquiring about increasing upload limits for the arcade.

It only takes a few minutes to sign in and leave a comment, so I’m asking the community to share this with everyone. Share this with your friends, your family, coworkers, creators, SC2-related Discords, and anyone who may remotely have an interest in the future of SC2’s Arcade. Content creators, please consider sharing this post with your communities. Every bit of engagement helps towards getting Blizzard to noticing this topic of interest, assuming they will act on it.

Thank you all for your time, hoping for the best here.

Edit with TLDR: Contacted Blizzard in multiple ways about arcade upload limits, support alleges that Blizzard forums are highly monitored and should the community demonstrate their desire for increased upload limits, they may be brought back in the future.

This stands to benefit everyone, including all creators/players! Please comment/like/share with anyone you can!

I remember playing through this modded campaign a good number of times, making use of the varied options and rosters. I’d love to see it make its way to the arcade so I could play through some more with a mate.

I hardly need to specify the value that community content from the Warcraft/Starcraft RTS games has provided to games as a whole, so it would be really cool to see fewer barriers and more options available to creators in the arcade.

Cryswar is an amazing creator and I really want them to succeed in their projects! I truly hope that blizzard spends a few hours looking into how to up that limit for them.

Please find a way to do this, Blizzard. I’ve been asking Crys to do the LotV co-op campaign for ages and it would suck if my favourite of the campaigns can’t be done due to some random limits.

For the games that arent abandonware, yeah.

Cryswar did amazing work on both of his WOL campaigns (the coop and single player versions), so I would recommend that Blizzard grant him this exception for more resource space.

This is a good idea, Blizzard. Keeps life in the franchise and costs nothing.

Blizzard, one of your best traits as a company is legacy support.

I know there have been issues with the arcade, however I fail to see an issue with allowing trusted community members to have extra upload limits. Granting the upload budget to the right people is legacy support with minimal work on your part.

Honestly the modding scene for SC2 may just be bigger than the competitive scene, so this situation warrants consideration.

Cryswar is one of the very best modders, and in my experience nothing but a stand-up guy.

If anyone deserves extra upload limits it’s him. Please help us keep the scene alive!

Like others I support this and want to see the arcade thrive again.

Thank you for writing this up Ryzlox, and to everyone who supported it! I don’t know if there’s even anyone left at Blizzard who likes SC2, but this seemed worth a shot at the least. Obviously there’s a selfish aspect here, I’d like more upload space without using janky workarounds or having to buy stuff on alts, but increased upload limit would benefit more arcade modders than just myself.

Regardless, with arcade finally being back and Blzizard at least aware that SC2 exists again, this feels like the best opportunity we’ll get for the foreseeable future.

As someone has had Swarm Reborn as their most replayed HOTS mod, if not their most replayed Starcraft 2 mod, not only would it be exceptional for this feature to come back so I can subject, not just my own flesh and blood to the swarm reborn campaign, but also my friends should it get that COOP campaign in the Arcade.

I really hope Blizzard takes this seriously and gives our boy Cryswar the ability to have that upload extension, because his work is well worth it and I’d hate for a lesser version to be uploaded when what we have is already magnificent.

Is this glazing? Yes. But I don’t care. Raise the upload limits.

I’m admittedly cynical and am of a similar mind as Beast, but there’s nothing stopping me from leaving a reply in support. Cheers!

The community content being some of the most amazing and fun, always brings me and my friends back to SC2. We have such a great time whenever we see a rework or a new spice up to campaigns that we discuss what our builds look like throughout the campaigns, its always a fun time.

Playing Arcade these campagins with each other would heighten the experience, we’ve done several coop campaigns that are already on there over the years having a great time everytime. With not only each other but bringing friends not familiar with StarCraft 2 to come and join in on the mayhem.

In fact for the longest time we’ve been waiting for Swarm Reborn, Abuthurs Whimsy or Kerrigan Has Gone Roguelike (there is a Zerg bias on my end lol) alongside all the amazing content that the community has worked so hard on to come Arcade for coop to be busted wide open.

So I only hope the Creators can get the access they need to bring their amazing works to more and more people, cause I know after I finish writing this post I am gonna go back to do a fresh run on a lot of them lol.

As an arcade mapmaker who ran out of publishing account space - blizzard please.

As a player who would like to play more bulky awesome stuff on the arcade - please blizzard, find a way.

Source? Because no - they never did that.

Plus, there’s more to it ..uploading content to Battle.net depot is throttled. It was awhile since I’ve tested it last time, but pretty sure it’s like 1Mbit/s (often less - depends on region and your latency etc.) max. Raising the cap of max space per account without increasing doing something about the speed would be pretty annoying to deal with.

Also, IMHO it’s better to use 3rd party launchers and unofficial content delivery servers, see Releases · R-P-S/SC2CampaignLauncher · GitHub as an example. Blizzard hasn’t been great at supporting their infrastructure in last 2-3 years, other than recent 10 monts lockdown on new uploads there have been other problems, like US and KR region being capped to like 30MB-100MB max per “document”, due server side bug (GATEWAY_FILE_APPEND_ERROR) - it only has been fixed recently, but without any official word, so could be aswell accidentally “fixed”, lol (can reappear any day from now).

I personally would not use it for any serious project which doesn’t require multiplayer. To this day publishing new content is not even paywalled etc. Meaning it’s easy to use in ways that violate the policy and lead to another lock-down.

I don’t think your feature request has any chance of getting through either way. They haven’t raised these limits even during premium program “pilot” (around 2018), so.. there’s a workaround though - I’ll post it in separate post.

“Chain of mods”

Trick that allows to push the limits of assets-like dependencies, and exceed 315MB per account by a large margin.

In its root the trick takes advantage of pinning/locking deps/mods at specific revisions.

Example setup:

Map                          (  ~x MB)
-> AssetsParent01            (  ~0 MB)
 -> AssetsParent01_Content01 ( 100 MB)
 -> AssetsParent01_Content02 ( 100 MB)
 -> AssetsParent01_Content03 ( 100 MB)
  • You start from uploading _ContentXX mods.
  • Once done with _Content, you update AssetsParent01 and ensure that it’s pointing against specific revision of _Content (basically uncheck “Always Use Latest”). Then you override all AssetsParent01_ContentXX(x3) with empty archive. This will free up the space..
  • Repeat, repeat and repeat - it can go on into AssetsParent02 etc. etc. until one hits the document limit (80). I guess it’s like 8GB easily per account (at the cost of document limit).
  • Unlinking/removing any document from the account that is part of the chain will may (assumption not verified) not allow lobby to be created.
  • Kinda tiresome to setup and maintain in the long run. But.. when you’ve just one account, that’s how you do it!

Thank you, Talv, for explaining. I can’t bother to explain besides telling the one guy that spread the post around where to look.

For the sheep that “fake upvoted” some guy to get more space, please stop lol

I appreciate the information, and I understand your apprehension that Blizzard would act at all. If Blizzard doesn’t act, we’re just in the same situation we’re in currently. If Blizzard acts, then it stands to benefit all creators and players, not just one creator.

As stated above, either nothing happens and we’re in the same situation as we are currently or something good comes of this discussion. Calling people “sheep” and accusing them of “fake upvotes” and asking them to stop liking a post they support does nothing for you; this change would benefit all creators and all players if successful. It isn’t just about one person, it’s about the community at this point.

I would appreciate you refraining from attacking other users and “not being rude” as you said in the Mapster Discord yourself, thank you!
