Solution for broken Creep Tumors with Campaign Zerg AI

Hey all,

I’ve come across a solution to what appears to be an age-old problem with the Campaign Zerg AI’s ability to build Creep Tumors. For those who are unaware, the Zerg Campaign AI struggles to build Creep Tumors when they are placed as bullies on a map. (I’ve linked a bug report from a veteran mapmaker down below who also came across this issue long before I did) Even Blizz themselves seems to have been unable to resolve this issue, as the bug report mentions that in the first epilogue mission the Zerg AI is unable to correctly spread its creep.

That being said, the solution to this issue is painfully simple: The Creep Tumors being placed as bullies are the wrong Tumors. In order to access the “correct” Creep Tumors you must go to the Unit known as ‘Creep Tumor (Queen)’, find the unit property known as ‘Editor Flags’, and uncheck the box labeled ‘No Placement’. This flag prevents the unit from appearing in the Terrain Editor, thereby prevent any mapmaker, Blizz included, from placing Creep Tumor (Queen) (Or CreepTumorQueen as the engine recognizes it) on any map.

The Creep Tumor that I’m sure 99% of mapmakers, myself (initially) and Blizzard included, tried to use is Creep Tumor (Burrowed). (Known internally as CreepTumorBurrowed) In fact, there are several other Creep Tumors, including one that is just called ‘Creep Tumor’, but Creep Tumor (Queen) is the one that you must use if you want the Campaign Zerg AI to build & rebuild Creep Tumors.

If anyone is interested in an explanation as to the presence of the other Creep Tumor entries and how they all work together, I would be happy to share what know & understand based on what else I have observed.

Edit 1: I have found and linked below another thread discussing this issue. Hopefully more people will see this post and be able to implement the solution for themselves.

7 years later and I can now use Zerg ai with no weird workarounds

literally no one cares about something like this at all.
