Actually I do not think that was the intention. My understanding is that they expected the patch to shake things up a little bit but the reaction from the community ended up being much stronger than expected.
do you ever read before replying. hes talking about patchs mod, which has nothing to do with what you just said.
Yes, I was referring to the Patchs + effect on the community.
I think you misunderstood what I meant, Winterkn3.
again, were talking about a person’s mod, his NAME IS PATCHES, we are not talking about the actual patches blizzard puts out. His mod has nothing to do with blizzards patch’s, its just him making mod, same thing terranicII did and posted on the forums for others to play. It was not intended as a testing for the new patch blizzard just put out. Its just a regular mod that anyone can load and play.
All I meant is that Patches’ mod has the advantage of being sourced by lots of community discussion – an advantage that is technically also true for both of the economy changes that were pushed through in 5.0.16.
A lot more of the changes in Patches’ mod have had the “god X sucks how can we fix X thing to suck less” as a core tenet that drives them.
ime, users hate sc2 battles ending so fast.
most of my friends like 30 minute games over fast ones, actually; because the back and forth and tugging of play is really interesting – and short games just don’t usually end up having that, because timing attacks are too kill-y in starcraft – instead of putting you ahead they Basically Win The Game, if that makes sense.
You also want to condense actives across fewer units.
This is why I feel rather offended at how frequently people end up calling things like the Immortal a dumb unit, because actually, those are good unit designs to have around, because having these units whose only input is their standard orbwalk-type micro creates great texture for the rest of the units.
patches is now testing versus mod ladder for his mod.

For those who don’t have an X account, replace x .com with xcancel .com and of course delete the whitespace.
Woh, thanks I actually found this useful…
Props!
Yes, this is very true. I have played wc2, then sc1, then wc3, then sc2… and of all these, the best of them in my opinion is/was wc3. Not only myself, but every person I know (personally - in the times of wc2 and sc1 there was not much of in internet to speak of, you plaied with friends and in a lan) they all feel the same way about it. It felt just right that tactic mattered, that units didn’t die if you merely touched them, that you could micro, that the battles lasted more than a few seconds, that a misclick didn’t cost you the game. SC2 in comparison felt like you needed to manage a foamy mass of soap bubbles which were in the shapes of units which you needed to keep producing, throwing at the enemy and watch them pop and disappear as soon as they touched each other.
Saying that most players disliked the WC3 gamespeed is a bit of a stretch.
My main pet peeve with this is, as much as I love playing macro games, I want those macro games to feel earned, and so frequently it really just… doesn’t, now, because the rush to 3 base econ is so prevalent simply due to the fact that a lot of that early aggression has been significantly hampered, and there’s very little you could do about it - and the 8 worker start honestly changed nothing in that regard IMO, other than making a couple timings more all-in.
