Is Raven that good?

It is a huge investment, has T found a way to use it in great effectiveness?
I love TY, Maru and Stat.
In game 1, TY disable 2 col and end the game.
In game 2, TY was fast to react and send the raven to harass the workers and manage a 11 kills, stop the probe from mining for long time and manage to get back safe.
Anyone use this as a basic strat vs protoss in ladder?

Yes, raven is good, but many T complained about them even when T pros made them and had sucess with them. Raven stop robo gameplay and denies DT and also clears observers/saves money from scan. In tvz and tvp is a unit that you should always have at least one.

Yes, ravens are good. Plenty of people open with it. The people who say it’s useless only stim F2 a move and cry when their mass bio is torn apart by disruptors because they refuse to stim away from a disruptor shot.

It’s only good for all-ins when you need to disable some units for a while like collossus.

Wonders happens. However if he would be lucky and he would use different units he could get even more kills.

Not really however good when you all in VS some kinds of units as I said above and one raven is always good for detection or anti armor missile but it’s still take reactor away from your factory which is kinda bad. If raven wouldn’t need a techlab it could be pretty good (not OP) support unit.

Before some zerg “smart” people will say “reactor raven would be OP!”… no they wouldn’t. They don’t have any AoE damage and anti armor missile doesn’t stack.

This guy knows what he’s talking about

That’s because most people play Bio and Bio doesn’t have a use for Ravens outside of a few early TvT/TvP timing pushes. People are less appreciative of units that are only viable for a short window in the early-game and “useless” otherwise.

Such units may even put the player behind compared to units with long-term viability because they represent wasted resources/supply that needs to be replaced later.

People don’t build Ravens as a response to DTs. Ravens arguably aren’t useful enough for that purpose because:

  • They take a long time to build on a setup (Starport with Tech Lab) that the player won’t have. The response is essentially too late if the opponent doesn’t keep pumping out DTs.
  • They are much slower to react to DT harassment than Scans, and less ubiquitous and readily available than Missile Turrets.
  • They are wasted supply and resources, since they don’t serve any other purpose for a Bio comp. Bio doesn’t have a use for Ravens in combat since nearly all of the units the player wants to disable are long ranged and well protected; and AAM is rarely beneficial enough to justify its use.
