The devs have mentioned those placed too high due to the bug would be demoted automatically. So while it’s true that leaving a league would solve the issue, it may not even be required right now. =)
well, this wasn’t handled well, if you don’t play games, you won’t get demoted. the ranking system has not got any integrity. one of my accounts was in m1 with m3 mmr, even after playing games it wasn’t demoted.
now the end of the season is here and the problems are back. suddenly the requirements are again less.

I have under 2100 MMR and I am master this new season
I can confirm the MMR tiers are completely bananas.
Last season I was between Platinum 2 and Diamond 3…
Once the season started, I lost 1 placement match and was placed on Bronze 1.
Plus, once I got to Bronze, I started seeing a lot of players that I know were Platinum or Diamond last season, that are now Bronze too.
Tiers are completely broken.
