Future of SC storyline?

With Kerri as Xel’naga there must be a deus ex machina, all-powerful threat that we’ve never heard of. Pretty much copy-paste from second half of SC 2 storyline. Was it good?

What if the solution is UED? Making full circle after all those blood-filled years and foreshadowing.

All-Devouring Swarm? Weaponized black hole. XXXhttps://www.livescience.com/5273-stand-black-holes-won-destroy-earth.html

Golden Armada? FTL kinetic bombardment.

Kerrigan? Free tropical honeymoon voucher. (Hmm, would her body dissolved if nuked? Giving time for UED to advance)

It’s humanity after centuries of advancements. All the wonders of human charactheristic as antagonist. Sophisticated story telling without being too cheesy.

You clearly do not know Blizzard very well.

Oh, he know Blizzard very well. He just didn’t want that kind of story progression.

Alas, he also knows it will be a thing. Because the story is made by the same company that delivered BfA :X

Eagerly awaiting the revelation that Amon was a puppet with no agency and actually a servant of an even more sinister power. He set everything up specifically so Kerrigan could get her next arbitrary power up and defeat the new threat.

Along the way Kerrigan will kill 80 billion ( in a stunning new development, every dominion world is Trantor now, not just Korhal) people in a meaningless attempt to get revenge by atomizing what’s left of Mengsks remains. The narrative will still treat this as heroic.

Knowing Blizzard, we’ll instead have Amon planning his death to enter Kerrigan’s body. She’ll get a child with Raynor who will be the new host for Amon, who was revealed to be an servant of the Ancient ThreatTM.

Blizzard already said that the story of Raynor and Kerry is done and future installments will focus on new characters.

I expect we will see an extremely contrived reason for the three races to fight each other, like how the Alliance and Horde keep fighting despite lacking any good reason to.

Valerian, Artanis, and Zagara will become bipolar lunatics like Thrall and Jaina did.

Lot of assumptions being done here without knowing if SC3 even happens.

We can speculate based on Blizzard’s past behavior.

Another SC game isn’t likely to start development for five years at the least, since Activision can’t seem to figure out how to profit off it. At best we might see a new mission pack for SC2, but not likely. The current crop of comics will be ignored by the game campaign, just like the previous campaigns ignored the supplemental fiction containing key plot points.

In any case, the story will be badly written as usual and be full of plot holes and deus ex machina. It will dramatically change the characterizations of existing characters and introduce annoying plot twists (and retcons) that will alienate anyone who cares about the lore.

And that’s assuming Activision doesn’t tank when the triple A publishers are barred from running gambling rings like they’re currently trying to.

In the $hitter.

According to recent analyses of Activision stock, Activision will transition entirely to F2P within a few years. So any future SC games will be F2P and rely on micro-transactions to make money. Not sure how well that translates to a continuing story. Will also depend on the genre of the following installment. RTS? MOBA? FPS? Something else?

The future doesn’t look bright, does it?

The entire AAA industry is built on predatory MTX and addicting people to gambling. Hopefully the gambling rings get shut down, but we’ll probably still have to deal with a crash before things get better. It’s looking pretty bleak in general, not just actiblizz.

I’m finding it difficult to care about the plight of triple A when the indie scene is flourishing. This is probably going to be good for the gaming industry overall.

Assuming the EU gets its act together and starts working on those anti-lootbox measures they’ve been eyeballing for a while within the current generation, I think there will be a pretty sharp about face from the AAA industry. Pretty much any time it goes to court, its been decided that loot boxes are straight up gambling and therefore illegal, so its just a matter of finishing the court issues and actually codifying something so that the companies stop needing to be told no on a case by case basis.

Well, they’re already fu^ton times better at doing something than anything from ESRB or PEGI.

Once loot boxes become illegal, the triple A companies will collapse. Hopefully then their assets will get auctioned to new owners who will actually care to do something good with them.

I doubt that. EA maybe, given that they bled most of their actually good IPs to death and none of the actually passionate teams are left, but the others will probably be fine. they existed before loot boxes and microtransactions were a thing, and though there will be some growing pains, they’ll figure out that the best way to sell a game is to make it legitimately good again.

That’s not the problem with SC, though. The gameplay is fine. It’s the story that’s crap. Metzen pretty much ensured that when he made up the plot on the fly with no regard for the long term viability of the IP. The Confederacy, Conclave, and Overmind were great setting cornerstones that could have driven hundreds of thirty mission campaigns over the decades. The Dominion, Daelaam, and Overqueen are Disneyfied garbage that have to be ignored or bent over backwards to justify the RTS combat that makes this IP popular in the first place. The whole premise is about the three races fighting, and Blizzard bent over backwards to contrive them into best friends singing kumbaya. The lore is so painfully bad that almost nobody in the fandom cares for it, at least compared to Warcraft seemingly supporting far more interest in its lore.
