Oh, I forgot to mention that I left the forum open in browser while I was playing today, something I don’t usually. It may be worth noting.
Not quite: I had to do the 5 placement matches since it was my 1st time in Versus, so the last match which placed me in a league was at 15:26 (for me) yesterday (replay file date). You checked before that time (your update message was posted around 13:30 for me).
I still had to create and place an NA account, since having my EU account in a league before I created the other didn’t work. I think I changed my EU avatar 1-2 times after creating the NA one though, not counting today, so not sure about that point.
The “log out/in of game and forum” part might be the thing, but I had done it before too (maybe not with my NA game account, I don’t quite remember).
So a mix of ranked/avatar switch/log out and in? There’s also the “both forum and game open simultaneously” that may be of importance.
Things are just getting more complicated…
Unless you’re interacting with some of the forum option, those should be read access only, so I don’t think so. Still, till we understand the bug everything goes !
That applies for the fifth game then. But I do recall having checked your profile the day before I updated the thread, and at that point I could see your second Darfeyn account in RFTW, with Swann’s avatar on the website, but the forum’s was still stalled.
Which if I understand you well leaves the following actions being performed afterwards :
Completing placement.
Look at your avatar in NA.
Change your avatar in EU.
Log out and back-in in the forum.
Probably. Whatever fixes it I think it has to be performed after your NA account has been registered in ranked. The bug might then be related to some kind of interaction between two region’s accounts, which might induce a registering mode that might work for the API websites, but not for the forum.
Till we can’t get it to get solved a second time we can’t be sure.
I double-checked my replays files and match history for the NA, and I gave the wrong game time: my last Vs match was at 16:43. I played an Arcade/custom game in-between the Vs matches Me and my too selective memory. So it’s more like this:
4th placement match
Arcade game ('twas the LOTV Unit Tester)
Last Vs match, placed in a league, switch (or log? not sure) to EU for coop and campaign
the next day, switch/log from EU to NA, check my profile and avatars on NA
log out of NA, log in on EU
change EU avatar, play some campaign, quit the game
find out the forum was still open, log out then back in → avatar appears
Also, I have some doubts on the number of log in/out here and there, but I did a least one real log out for both NA & EU, not just the region switch by clicking the “change server” round button thingie.
Alright. That doesn’t changes the core of the actions you performed though, I don’t think the arcade game can influence the ladder profile of a player.
Still, we now have to wait for another player with a stalled avatar to present himself. In case Crane doesn’t answer, I do recall there were two more affected, including Leviathan and N001. I’ll contact them for next week’s update if there are no news until then.
I haven’t played Versus mode in a few months because of how stressful it can be, but in the name of squashing a bug, I’ll try to overcome my trepiditation!
Okay, I’ve done as asked - got myself into Diamond 3 on both NA and EU, followed the instructions regarding avatars/portraits, and re-logged on the forum, and now my picture is of the infested terran.
32 new correspondences added (2016 Summer championship, 9th Anniversary, Aberration team, Aldaris classic, Dark voice, Diablo marine devoted, Diamondback, Ghost ultimate, Queen of blades, Tyrael marine, Nova solo 1000, Ornatus, Battlecruiser solo 750, Phoenix solo 50, Wardi Adjutant, Selendis team, Siege tank special forces, Ursula, Stats 2017, Keystone, Swan Master, Dark 2019, Tespa Collegiate, Heromarine 2019, Trap 2019, Gosu Z Trophy, Zagara officer, Lowko caster, Zest 2018, Sentry Ihan-rii, Tracer).
Corrected a mistaken correspondence ( iNcontroL ↔ Tyrael).
Added a link to the workaround to the stalled avatar bug, until we’ve ascertain it works reliably.

I’ve happened to have gone over the correspondence for both iNcontroL and Tyrael, and both aren’t mismatched. You were joking about iNcontroL being portrayed as an angel, weren’t you ?
Thanks Crane, this helps. We might’ve found a workaround for the stalled avatar bug. I assume you’ve only played enough games to get placed (1 for each account ?), right ?
As for the infested terran portrait, it’s the one which is mistmatched with the one you’ve selected in NA. So I believe that if you do change your NA one (the match-table could help you getting a correspondence you like better), wait a bit, and unlog-relog, your website avatar should now change as well.

I just went to the EU forums (EN & FR) to see if the stalled avatars were fixed here too. Not at first, but after log out/in, I have Tychus’ portrait, same as my EU game account.
Well that’s part of the reasons while I’m updating this topic. Help yourself !
I think we might’ve found something with what you did when first fixing it. I’d like to get more people (N001, Leviathan, etc. ) to try the workaround, and possibly narrow the necessary steps to get it working. But if does, it’ll be in good part thanks to you, Darfeyn.
What I’m currently thinking is that for some users, having their profile not registered in ranked in one region might affect the behavior of avatar storage in the website part of another. But it’s just a theory atm.
As for Tychus not being mismatched in EU as well ; and the stalled bug being solved in EU as well, I take good note of those.

Found how the mismatches bugs worked :
The portraits are in fact sorted matched by batches, and so they are also mismatched by batchs, with the 8th batch leading to black avatars, and the 9th and above being systematically mismatched by +1.
If we take his neighbor, the Carbot Zergling, which in SC2 static site is placed °2 in the 13th batch :

And do manually change the first numbers (which are those of the batch) from 13 to 14, that leads us to :
That’s the keystone artifact. Which is indeed mismatched with the Carbot Zergling in my little match-table. Bingo !
Long story short, it seems that starting with the 9th the batches are shifted by +1 from ingame to web lists, that the 15th batch leads to a 0404 error, and that the avatars of the 8th batch are black. I need to find the place of some avatars leading to the black one to make sure, but my take is that there is a misplaced batch around the eight or ninth place on the websites lists.
For devs or people interested, I detailed the batches mismatches in the match-table of the first post.
CHANGES :
Tychus artifact confirmed non mismatched for EU as well. I’ve done a bit of EU portraits, and so far it seems the correspondences are the same than in NA.

Hey Leviathan. Darfeyn and I may have found a workaround for the stalled avatar bug. It seems to have worked for Darfeyn and Crane, but I’ve got no news from N001 yet, and I’m not sure that N001 and you are affected by the same bug. Fancy a try ? The method is below :

No new correspondences added this time, as those could now be fully deduced from the batches’ ones. The batches correspondences however, have been completed.
REPORTS
I’ve been exploring the batch °8. As I suspected, it’s the transitional one :
Batch °8 portraits from 0 to 7 (some Classic/Cerberu/Ihan-rii portraits) aren’t mismatched.
Batch °8 portraits from 8 to 35 are black avatars. Among those are the WCS 2019 portraits.
This one for example is supposed to be Heromarine’s :
There are missing references which seem nowhere to be found (such as the Tyrador Thor or the Cerberus Lurker), which were also supposedly uploaded in 2019.
My theory is that there was an error during the 2019 re-upload of the batch °8 which uploaded black avatars instead of the WCS 2019 ones. And that this led the system not to have enough place for the missing references, interposing a virtual °9 web batch which doesn’t exists. And thus, shifting all the batches from 9 and above of exactly +1. Leading to the current situation.
Alright, so I think we can assume I’ve explored the mismatched portraits bugs as completely as an exterior volunteer could do. So unless there is a significant demand for the match-table to be completed, or if we get more feedback about the stalled avatar bugs, my work here can be considered as done.

There’s been an evolution to the situation regarding the stalled avatars bug, so I’ve done a bit more investigations :
Between the 22 and the 23th of October, another wave of stalled avatars has hit the forum, turning previously displayed portraits into the default SC2 one. I think it must’ve hit 40% of the users profiles (including Miro’s, PeekaChi’s, Shia’s, College Wing’s and mine).
Between the 26 and the 27th of October, a second wave of previously functional profiles (even after the 23th) were now affected (Dallarian’s is an example).
I did a bit of analysis :
And it turns out… there is no pattern. The bug seems to hit in a fashion completely unrelated to ingame players’ status.
Also, it seems that the profiles on the websites are they functional (though still mismatched), so it confirms this issue as being purely forum related.
So I thought I’d report it, in case one member of the forum/websites teams ever saw this, as it seems related to something that happened/was done around the 23th and the 27th of October. So if there’s a will, that information might help pinpointing the exact source of the bug.
EDIT : it’s worth noting that I tried the fix Darfeyn and I found, but was unable to perform it due to Tychus’ avatar being unavailable to me ingame…
After reading your update, I checked my EU forum avatars since I changed my EU ingame around the 25-26 Oct, to the Spear of Adun one. They were still the old avatar, so I manually logged out/logged in from both, and voilà! Default SC2 logo, stalled avatar back…
Something else to note, I checked the website profile, and here’s the list of my EU account unlocked avatars (hoping the link works):

Some are mismatched, but also many broken pictures, including the Spear of Adun. Though not sure if it’s only on my end, and if it was already the case before, didn’t check this tab.
US forum is still Swann, but I don’t want to log out to see if it’s now stalled back
Those seem to be close to the mismatches we have for all websites, as Raynor, Kachinsky, Thatcher and Cade aren’t mismatched in the sample I collected, and aren’t in your example as well. It’s noteworthy that more portraits seem to be missing. I checked some on my side :
And as you can see the terran level 35, which should be Carbot Marine is the Blue trophy, just as in our mismatch example above.
Now if we look a bit more into the details :
There is a new feature with our avatar and account name displayed in the top right corner. This avatar is still displayed accordingly to the previously known mismatches list, and isn’t the generic one.
There is a new feature right under that one under the form of a “CHANGE PROFILE” button. But when clicked upon, it leads to a 0404.
From all of that we can deduce that
the profile websites aren’t affected by the still avatar bug, as their are still displaying the mismatched portraits and still updated accordingly to those mismatched lists
There have been recent changes to the profile websites
The purely forums wave of stalled avatars might be due to the forums website getting more and more out of sync with the profile websites, as they’re implementing changes on those and not on the forums.
Yeah, I was really annoyed when I saw that 40-50% of the forums profiles avatars were now stalled ; so I understand.
What it could be interesting to do is to check if your EU account portrait gets found again by changing your EU ingame avatar back to Tychus. That would indicate that the forums stalls are now due to lists not finding their target.
But there’s a small possibility that messes up your NA avatar, so if you prefer to just report and let it at that, it’s completely fine.
The one under the races’ decals? It works for me, allowing to switch between profiles from different regions (US and EU for me)
And the portrait tooltips are also mismatched or simply broken, but unrelated to the portraits mismatching. Just saw it in your screenshot and checked on my tab. It seems all portraits got a tooltip related to the wrong achievement: Terran Lv.35 got “reach Protoss Lv.6”, Abathur got the “No-toss” achievement tooltip, Jim Raynor got the “Master Technician” achievement tooltip…
The “achievements” menu is also broken, any link from it shows only a page with the “Game / Media / … / Profile” bar and what should be at the bottom with " Ready, Commander? Play StarCraft II" and battle background (not sure I’m clear here, but you can test it). Also, the achievements listed in the menu aren’t the ones I got (never got any “Brutal: #” achievement).
So I’m starting to think it’s more of a large achievements bug that affects us, since portraits are related directly to them…

took the risk to change my EU avatar (no change for US, and I don’t think it’ll affect US forum until a log out occurs):
changed EU ingame avatar to Arcturus Mengsk = EU forums are still Default SCII even after log out/in, website is Arcturus with no manual log out/in (though the one above “view profile” is Swann, so always showing the US one?)
relaunched game again, changed to Swann = EU forums are still Default SCII even after log out/in, website is Swann without manually log out/in
relaunched game yet again, changed to Tychus = EU forums are still Default SCII even after log out/in, but website was Swann until log out/in, then Tychus as it should be (though the one above “view profile” is still Swann)
So as I suspected, only switching to Tychus’ portrait doesn’t correct the bug. I’ll try to get ranked for this season, maybe it’ll make a difference (should have only 1 placement match to do in EU 1v1, I’ll see for NA account).
The mismatched tooltip mean that the objects lists for the tooltips are outdated as well. You are right to suspect it’s a different list than portraits though, as it affects portraits that aren’t mismatched in the websites batches.
In fact it happens as if the forums website lost track of the user’s profile data. And so if data is missing it either replaces it with available data (NA’s portrait), or displays a 0404 (when I try to swap accounts in the websites profiles).
What I think is that with time they implemented small changes to the profile websites UI, while not updating the forum past 2019’s overhaul. And so users being in certain situations or selecting certain portraits get bugs. And the more time does pass, the more the profile UI changes, the more forums users are affected.
And so our little workaround must’ve worked previously because it allowed the portrait data to be registered in a way the forum website could handle. But if they keep changing the profiles websites without updating the forums, past a certain point even that won’t suffice. I suspect that that’s what happened around the 23 and 27 of October.
Kudos to you to have taken the risk of changing your EU avatar. Don’t unlog from NA now ! ^^
It’ll be interesting to see if doing ranked while having Tychus selected helps ; but EU is my main region, and I play ranked regularly. So at the very least I can say that without Tychus it doesn’t helps anymore.
It would be nice if they provided some feedback about bugs reports though, as they are quite sectored. I’ve reported it in the website feedback section as well, but currently they stay so silent we don’t even know if the forums/websites team does see our reports or not…
