Co-Op Mutation #349: Die Together

The enemy has developed a new type of armor. It is calibrated to absorb the energies of one commander’s attacks, and render the user invulnerable to that army. It also includes a single-use emergency recharge device that restores the armor to full health. Coordinate with your ally to cover each other’s weakness and destroy the Void Slivers.

Just Die! - Enemy units are automatically revived upon death.
Polarity - Each enemy unit is immune to either your units or your ally’s units.

Notes:

  • Half of every single attack wave and every base is immune to your or your ally. This means you cannot split between separate attack waves; both need to attack the same location simultaneously.
  • A great way to figure out which units are yours before engaging is to mouse over the enemy unit:
  • Just Die! revives enemies after their death animation. They respawn with full health.
  • Just Die! reverses the polarity. A unit killed by player 1 will revive and must now be killed by player 2.
  • Death Grip Crystals are units, and therefore revive and change polarity.
  • Immobilization Wave, Time Stop, and other movement/attack restricting spells still work on enemy units immune to you, but they deal 0 damage.
  • You can manually target the enemy units immune to you, but it will do 0 damage.

#163 Die Together – 4/18 SOLO CLEAR

Mutators: Just Die!, Polarity

Wait, how do you solo a polarity mutation? It all started when CtG and Sticksbender had a run where one person had all 5 slivers.

I had always thought that the slivers had to be 3-2 or maybe 4-1. Since 5-0 was possible, Sticksbender and I started rolling the dice. The person I thought had the best chance at solo-ing this was Mengsk, so once I rolled a 5-0, I held on to that replay and began routing. After beating that one, Sticksbender cleared it with Vorazun (using oracle stasis traps on the big hybrid).

Vorazun (p3) (link if he uploads the VOD)

After discussing this in CtG’s discord server, Eddon’t joined in and cleared it with Zeratul.

Zeratul (p2) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jpgHxICmJkU

Eddon’t reminded me that the hidden base cheese exists, so I used it in my Artanis, Vorazun (because I couldn’t do what Sticksbender did), and Karax runs.

For regular play, here’s a short guide. Summary: Snipe the slivers if you can.

How to snipe the slivers

If two crappy commanders (Raynor and HH) can do it, anyone can.

Questions about any of these runs are welcome.

Ah, the mutation where the difficulty is to find a decent partner.

Mutation overlap 163 this week 2nd

1st clear EZ clear Mengsk P3+Artanis

Mutation (Die Together) play list

Raynor P3 is no problem to this mutation.

Always use Battlecruisers to deal with the Slivers. DON’T use the Yamato on the Sliver.

Got a replay?

Let me think… I’ll try but takes time before the the hybrid awakens.

Karax P3 has been my “go to” for the past 2 Brutations, but this time around, I think I’ll go with the boring but tried and true Zagara P1.

Why not? Overkill?

Why not vikings? Aren’t they better for sniping void shards? I haven’t tried battlecruisers yet, but vikings usually have higher DPS.

I remember this one. INSTANT skip, has to be the most unfun combination ever. The only thing that could make this worse is if you added in Fatal Attraction and Micro transactions.

Every single partner I got just ignored the choking crystals. smh.

fck this sh*t. not gonna play any more mutas im totaly dependend on my ally. cant stand this

Well, playing Artanis made it easy. :+1::+1::+1:

As long as you get a level 600 Tychus, just double-right click all of your dragoons on Tychus himself to make sure they stick together and cheese all the shards which have your polarity using solar bombardment.:kiss::kiss:

I’ve done the whole solar bombardment cheese so many times I can probably do it in my sleep :yawning_face::drooling_face:

People must be playing on hard, or be very lucky and their ally is able to solo at least 4 slivers, because i don’t see how else Stukov could be winning this one.

All the enemy units are your polarity once, therefore forget about your partner when thinking about how one would or wouldnt win it.

First, you must be able, with your commander, to solo the map on Brutal (without mutations), and without using your partner base (nor workers). If you cant do at least that, then you are not expected to do this either (bar cheeses).

On top of that, your partner has to able, just like you, to solo the map.

Next, both of you must, on the same game, proceed to solo the map while walking your armies together, as the enemies come in mixed polarities. If you separate your armies, thats why you lose.

Finally, because it is likely one of you will screw up a little, or a lot, you individual armies will not have enough power or sustain to face whatever needs to be faced at the moment (forgot to mass, forgot to upgrade, forgot something). So that player’s share of the enemies will live longer than expected, so someone will have to tank the extra hits (yes, you).

Therefore not only must you solo the map, and do it synchronized to your partner, you must be prepared to build enough units to solo it twice or so (because theyll hit you and you cant hit back, so youll lose more units than expected).

Stukov, has infinite units and can stall with infestations, taking lots of free hits that allow your partner to catch up. If your problem is that you cant destroy the shards fast enough alone, try to build mechs.

You can also choose p1 and only build vroom vrooms, they hit hard, you dont have to aim, kill shards fast, and move fast, so you can kite the opposing polarity around while your partner wakes up. Dont forget to keep building them because they die fast regardless in that situation and you cant stop pushing for long or youll lose to the timer.

Agreed, Stukov really struggles with either taking too long to clear or losing too many mech units. At least compared to a lot of other commanders.

Have you got a solo replay, or even just a regular co-op brutal where he’s not being carried?

If Stukov is carried in your experience, stop playing Stukov.

Stukov cannot be carried on polarity. Neither player carries the other. Thats the whole point of polarity. At best you stall a few seconds for the other.

Stukov is low micro, dont screw up the macro, only need to keep producing and have an ally that keeps producing. Move together.

I have no choice over who my ally chooses to play.

Of course he can; surely you know carrying is not only about number of kills. An ally who carries on polarity is one who clears faster and stalls, for more than a few seconds, for his ally to catch up. It’s one who snipes his far slivers quickly while still helping an ally clear their own slivers.

You’re avoiding the key point of actually showing your Stukov play on this brutation. If you disagree with Espurr at least back up your claim.

Polarity is so much easier when the ally leaves the game. Artanis + Zagara is a good combo and for sniping. Clear expo, then top left, bottom left, and the rest.

thats ironic because you havent backed any of your claims, more tha a few seconds?, show a 5 minute stall, sniping is cheesing, doesnt count
