Co-Op Mutation #333: Distant Threat

The Spear of Your Doom has made its way to Meinhoff, and is beginning to bombard the area around your base. It also has deployed time dilation devices and weapons augments for your enemies. Clean out the infested before mounting your counterattack.

Long Range - Enemy units & structures have increased weapon and vision range.
Purifier Beam - An enemy Purifier Beam moves across the map toward nearby player units.
Time Warp - Enemy Time Warps are periodically deployed throughout the map.

Notes:

  • The Purifier Beam is permanent for Amon, and spawns at the start of the map. It slowly chases your units, and also [your static defense].
  • A new Purifier Beam spawns on Brutal at 10:30 and after every 10 minutes.
  • The Purifier Beams go past the rear choke point but do not go into the base.
  • Time stop works on the Purifier Beams.
  • Time Warp slows down ground and air units, and even building construction and production.
  • Long range increases the range of all enemy units. This increases the damage output of the infested marines.

Mutation overlap 147 this week 2nd

1st clear Mengsk P3+Kerrigan P1

Mutation (Distant Threat) play list

Oh look, this week HH won’t rank in its usual tier

Challenge: what would be the hardest commander duo this week?

We can start with the “meme” ones. HH P3, Abby P3, Stetmann P3, Stukov P2.

#147 Distant Threat – SOLO ALL CLEAR and then some

Mutators: Purifier Beam, Long Range, Time Warp

Vanilla DoN with some minor inconveniences. Long Range is the most noticeable mutator, as special infested + long range can be quite annoying. This might be one of the only times where you WANT hunterlings (because they don’t get extra range).

Purifier beams tend to get stuck at the entrances. If the beams are in the north, clear the buildings in the south, and vice versa.

Time Warp… is just there. It’s only a bit dangerous when a purifier beam is nearby.

stet p3 is NOT meme on DoN. it is very strong and probably even better than p2.

that’s right. Even Mecah Spine Crawlers get in on the action!

Mengsk eso. Gg. Please don’t to terry

Stet P3 on maps with lots of enemies (DoN, ME, broodling, infested mutators) is just so FUN.

Definitely try this out. Would be totally fine even as level 1 P3 Stet (if you’re wondering about prestiging the final time).

I think you’re right about Abathur P3 but what is the worst team mate? H&H is too good at clearing even as P3 and Stukov is too good at defense.

Maybe H&H P3 and Abathur P3? Can anyone think of any worse combination?

Did it in Normal, but since it seemed easy, left the commander up to the RNG.
Ended up with Zagara P1.
Thanks to an ally with H&H (that brought Hard difficulty though), next wave of banelings go collect scraps to fund the one coming after, practical
I didn’t bother making the Scourge Nest, just ignored the beam and the mutalisks that were killing my army (that would die anyway).
We managed to hold back on the last structure to wait and kill the bonus.

Well we overcheesed it with Nova P3 and P2 Swann. Even got the worst possible zerg in Kaboomer and spotters. But I guess that doesn’t matter when sab drone go boom.

P3 Zera with a P1 Stukov ally.

My ally for the most part defended with bunkers and tanks, and also did some Overseer kiting of the purifier beams in areas that were already cleared which kept them somewhat occupied. I did the majority of the clearing.

Not much to say, went smoothly. Just a tad slower than usual.

P2 Karax (me) + p1 Swann (random ally)
Firstly I was p1, but we decided to remake

Went simply mass carriers. I was too lazy to go robo-builds with colossi.
Pretty simple mutations, felt almost like normal mission)

Stettman P3 and H&H P3. Maybe underestimated the effect of the range buff on the infested marines and lost a fair few Mecha Ultralisks.

Didn’t affect the outcome. We finished before the optional spawned (accidentally).

The most amusing part of this mutation is how comically long the reach of static defence become. Funny how +3 range is almost ‘too good’ if hypothetically any CO can obtain such a power :joy: .
