Co-Op Mutation #273: Sick Micro

The terrazine on Bel’Shir has enhanced the planet’s native viruses. A deadly plague spreads among all lifeforms, and your every beleaguered action comes at a cost. Suffer through it and emerge victorious.

Black Death - Some enemy units carry a plague that deals damage over time and spreads to other nearby units. The plague spreads to your units when the enemy unit is killed.
Micro Transactions - Giving commands to your units costs resources based on the unit’s cost.

Notes:

  • Any enemy unit has 33% to carry black death.
  • Players units that carry this plague will lose 2% of their max HP per second until they die.
  • When any infected unit dies [player’s or Amon’s], it will spread to 3 random players’ units within 5 range.
  • The cost to micro a unit is its supply count times 1 mineral and 1 gas. For units that cost only minerals, the cost to micro is the supply times 2.
  • Buildings and top bars also cost minerals to use.
  • Even hero units like the Hyperion and Kerrigan cost resources to micro. Fenix notably costs only 1 mineral to micro.
  • Auto attack does not cost minerals, so static defense should not cost anything to work.
  • Once you run out of resources, you will continue to be able to micro your existing units and workers for free! But… you can’t make any more units until your gather enough resources to make them again. [Best time to set rally points and move Overlords is right after you make your first worker, before the workers return with their first harvest]

Hmm…Might have to go Zagara’s p3 and make sure to kill any units before they get close.

#38 Sick Micro – 16/18 SOLO CLEARED

Mutators: Black Death, Micro Transactions

Black death is the main problem. Static D doesn’t get affected, so you can use a lot of that. Expendable units work well once again. Alternatively, you can try to outheal the damage.

Static D: Karax, Swann, Raynor (not recommended), Mengsk, Zeratul (kind of)

Expendable units: Zagara, Swann, Fenix p2, Dehaka creeper hosts

Outheal: Nova, Tychus, Stetmann, Kerrigan (in omega)

Failures [and why I failed]

Artanis (p0, p3) [Artanis needs to micro to avoid black death, and microing here is costly]

Alarak (p1) [Alarak just keeps eating everyone until everyone is dead]

Successes [and key points]

Raynor (p0) [Commentary] Starcraft 2 Co-op Mutation #38: Sick Micro - Raynor Solo (p0) [=Brutal+4] - YouTube [mass bunkers]

Starcraft 2 Co-op Mutation #38: Sick Micro - Nova Solo (p1) [=Brutal+4] (Hero Only) - YouTube [Hero Only; I tried no mining as well, but the base healing is not enough to outheal black death and take damage]

Stukov (p3) Starcraft 2 Co-op Mutation #38: Sick Micro - Stukov Solo (p3) [=Brutal+4] - YouTube [the usual]

Fenix (p2) Starcraft 2 Co-op Mutation #38: Sick Micro - Fenix Solo (p2) [=Brutal+4] - YouTube [the usual]

Stetmann (p1) Starcraft 2 Co-op Mutation #38: Sick Micro - Stetmann Solo (p1) [=Brutal+4] - YouTube [the usual; keep the green light on]

Mengsk (p3) Starcraft 2 Co-op Mutation #38: Sick Micro - Mengsk Solo (p3) [=Brutal+4] - YouTube [mass bunkers]

Easiest: Stukov, Nova, Zagara

Proudest: Raynor, Vorazun

Questions about any of these runs are welcome.

this week 1st clear Mengsk P3+Nova P3

Mutation (Sick Micro) play list

Great… Microtransactions. Used to think that was not that bad, until I learned the hard way that my APM is higher than I thought it was… oftentimes on not so efficient clicking.

Does anyone know how black death interacts with Vorazun? Does recall remove the effect?

i believe your infected units get recalled to your main nexus, and then they go below 1 hp and die, infecting your probes. build a nexus away from the main to avoid losing your mineral line.

p2 (for some reason) makes it so that your infected units stay at 1 hp.

Eazy as Stukov P3 and Swann P1. But what else? Microtransactions and the Black Death? No thanks.

About as cancer as it gets. Another week can’t play. Sad.

I absolutely hate Micro Transactions. Most not fun mutation there is.

Total piece of cake with Stukov P3. The endless units negates black death. And the Psi Emitter almost negates microtransactions due to only costing 10 minerals no matter how many infested are on the map.

Interesting, that would mean the mutator somehow interacts with (this effect cannot kill) part of P2.

Problem is though that they would still be at one hp, deal reduced damage, and be hard to replace because of microtransactions eating all the gas.

Ok, did it first try (surprisingly) with Tychus P3 and a Zagara P1 ally. Microtransactions really hurt, and boy did the Odin do work this day.

Ally was a really good Zagara P1 who pulled off some clutch plays. We even got both bonuses.

Abathur P1 should be good.
1-Black death actually heals >100 biomass units
2-if a unit dies its biomass is not lost
3-Abathur army strength is based more on biomass than mineral/gas/supply levels

If you go Vorazun P1 they then get recalled to a dark pylon instead of Nexus if it’s closer, a way to avoid infecting your workers if you throw down a few Dark pylons.

But strange regarding P2. My guess is that the mutator effect counts as ‘cast’ by the player, and with P2 Damage over time effects used by the player can’t kill, units therefore won’t die.
Either that or it’s a general P2 bug, does DoT effects used by the AI work as normal?

That’s not it. P2 Fenix’s -50% damage units won’t die to Black Death either. In fact, P2 Tychus won’t die to it either… but once you bring another Outlaw close by they’ll lose that last 1 HP.

Seems to be a rounding issue when there’s damage reduction.

Done with Stukov P3 and a Mengsk P3 ally, also got both bonuses.

FWIW, try NORMtation or HARDtation. The easier difficulty levels are rather mild even for the worst mutations. You can collect more on the number of bounties and Mutation wins towards their respective achievements, along with the XP bounty.

I’ve already got the # of bounties achievement, and about to get it for # of Casual and Normal wins. XP I try to divert towards leveling up prestige (although this week may be too difficult for that).

Tychus don’t out heal Plague, I tested. The outlaws struggle at near 0 for sometimes, and die randomly

Tychus out heals it easily if you use healers in your team

Pretty simple mutation if you know what you’re doing.

Did it as P3 Karax with a P0 Tychus, and we also completed both bonuses. For Tychus, you should get Nikara as the second outlaw and upgrade her healing abilities asap.
