Your 2026 Season 3 Review

Yet again, it is time to share some thoughts on the season that has mostly passed.

As always, a list of the stuff we got this season;
  • New Damage Hero: Shion
  • New Hybrid Map: Neon Junction
  • New Stadium Map: Oasis University
  • YOASOBI collab
  • Mythic Skin: Ascendant Phoenix - Illari
  • Mythic Skin: World Forger - Mauga
  • Mythic Weapon Skin: Tokyo Rebel - Hanzo
  • New Ultra-Tier Skins: Nyan Cafe - Sierra & Kiriko
  • Hero Ban Updates
  • Anima Strike Event
  • Excavation Initiative Event
  • Community Crafted Event
  • Summer Games 2026 Event
  • Quick Play Hacked 1-3-2
  • Quick Play Hacked 2-2-2
  • New Battle Pass & Shop Cosmetics

(If I missed something, let me know)

My thoughts:

I think this season was okay. I’ll start with the stuff I really liked;

Shion is a great addition imo. I haven’t actually played as her myself, but I’ve found her pleasant to play with and against. Her design is pretty cool, her story is alright and her VA is excellent. I really don’t have any major complaints about her, the only thing I wish was different was her mask being completely expressionless to play more into the whole uncanny creepy vibe she’s got going on, but that’s not a major critique. Great hero all around, way, way better than Sierra was.

The Community Crafted event mode was neat. I didn’t love that it was role queue, but that didn’t detract too much from my enjoyment of it. I particularly enjoyed playing a version of Bastion that was actually allowed to be fun again, but other heroes were fun to try out too. Overall it felt like a lesser version of the April Fools patches, which I also really enjoy.

The new Neon Junction map is alright. I’m not personally really into the aesthetics/vibes of the map, but I don’t dislike it, and gameplay-wise it’s just fine. I struggle to really asses the map fairly though, because map voting continues to be a thing that shoves payload maps down my throat all the time, and I’m pretty tired of it. Maybe I’d like the map more if that weren’t the case.

That was pretty much all the positives I had to say about the season. There’s a bunch of stuff that I don’t care enough about to form a strong opinion, I don’t play stadium, role queue, or competitive, so all the changes/additions/experiments to those modes don’t affect me. Though I did try out the QPH modes out of curiosity, and while that didn’t change my feelings about role queue, I will say that the 1-3-2 mode they tried out is probably the closest I’ll ever come to actually enjoying role queue, for what that’s worth.

Both mythic skins were pretty dull, which is a shame cause I like both Mauga and Illari. Cosmetics in general haven’t really been all that great lately imo. And the new Ultra-tier skins are just yet another ugly stain on this game’s god awful monetization model. I still hate that they’re doing collabs, though at least this latest one was with another band again, which is mildly less egregious to me than the ones they do with other games and tv-shows, since the skins are at least “original” in some sense, rather than just being characters from other properties.

The main things that continue to sour my experience are things they added well before this season, those being the qp leaver penalties, the 2 tank limit in open queue, overzealous chat moderation, and map voting. Obviously those aren’t this season’s “fault”, but they’ve been continuing to worsen my experience ever since they were added, so they keep shaping the experience I have every season to be worse than it otherwise would be.

(Ps. I decided to stop doing the number rating thing, but y’all can feel free to give your own one if you want to.)

Thanks for stopping by, I wish y’all a lovely rest of your day :brown_heart:

i like neon junction more than the new hero but i mean the new hero does seem popular. i have yet to really play her… maybe in the future. thats a personal thing but she does seem well recieved and in my opinion the voice actress is very good

thats about it tho… nothing really new except these 6v6 tests heh

Blah blah balancing etc etc.
It would be 1/10, completely missing the point, failing to adress age old issues, the usual. As always.

My real rating is 5/10 because Shion and Neon Junction hard carried. But the obvious Cash Grab with Ultra Skins and the balancing really should get looked at. Otherwise, the events were in total unspectacular. I wasn’t really thrilled to play Community Crafted for how disjointed it was. Since I don’t care about skins, they don’t get factored in at all. The only reason it’s not 4/10 is because I find Winston’s Volleyball way more fun than the normal player. They’re lucky they put it into Arcade this year. Unlike last year.

Overall, the game, great as it is, suffers from the gameplay being worse off than their skins. Which is a shame. Although unsurprising.

Same as the other 55+ seasons before it

Same game….same complaints as always….hero bans and map voting continue to suck…and RQ continues to cause issues as always

Easy 9.5/10. Leaderboard Spectate is AMAZING, and single handedly made me use up half my 100 monthly GFN hours. Watching Ostriix, Hadi etc play in-client and in real time is crazy cool. :growing_heart:

Shion and Neon Junction are good additions, but the rest has been kind of terrible (although I did like Illari’s mythic, which thankfully has a color scheme I like).

They haven’t really addressed problems with lack of long-term reward systems, and they’ve been brutalizing us with excessively grindy events (burnout is a real thing, as are the existence of real life and other games to play). Getting to tier 200 on the battle pass takes too long and is too little of a reward, same as usual. I’m slightly more ticked off by this than usual because I was past tier 100 at the midseason patch, and I think it’s a short season anyway; so much of BP XP is coupled to objective rewards that it’s silly trying to grind out tiers by game XP alone (and I’m sure there are still plenty of people who play enough to hit tier 200 without issue, but I’m not one of them anymore; I have too many other things vying for my attention).

Also, I still hate 6v6, and these QP Hacked events have made little sense. I think they have better things they could find to use for experimentation than more 6v6 variants.

New map is pretty to look at but just feels like its gotten lost in the shuffle. Shion has a cool bike ability but ultimately feels like just another DPS addition. Considering how hot season 1 started it feels like the games really slumped of late.

played Shion and Sierra during 132 test. i like them both

132 hybrid felt like playing 6v6 2 tank limit, and 2 tank limit already plays like 222 role queue

i finished digimon world 1 on ps1 while i was perpetually stuck in arcade queues. i had a lot of frustration with the tamagotchi mechanics when i played the game in my childhood, but even now i adore the secrets and exploration. i read that the developers wanted kids to discuss the games many mysteries at school, which is a cool idea

if anything i wish games would have picked up on the city building

anyways, overwatch
the absence of a mode to play with no open queue available and no substitution for assault/original flashpoint/clash, stings/10

  • Shion - one of the best heroes this year
  • Neon junction - great map
  • Start of season event - brutally grindy, really killed my enjoyment
  • Mythics - garbage we’re all sick of the divine stuff. The island guns on mauga were cool at least
  • Battlepass - so/so, the sombra skin is the highlight but she’s in nerf jail still
  • Shop - didn’t buy anything, there just wasn’t anything I wanted
  • Yaosobi - it’s a fine collab, almost got mizuki but decided nah
  • Ultra skins - I wouldn’t even mind these that much if the effort was at least a little proportional to the price increase, but as is it’s just a joke
  • Summer games - barely existed
  • QP hacked events - was surprised how good these played, pretty much the only reason I logged on in the second half

8/10, would’ve been 10/10 without the anti-consummer garbage
