True.
But hero missions + talent trees are what warranted the “2” in Overwatch 2 in the first place.
They even explicitly said that they had to recreate OW1 in the new engine for OW2 to accommodate the complexity of that content. Instead, we’re just getting Archives Mission but with glitter.
So it now begs the questions, what’s the “2” in Overwatch 2 for?
It’s not about the replayability of the “promised” content but rather why did they kill OW1 and arguably downgraded it for?
Overwatch 2 is nothing more than a shop and battlepass update and that’s what people are mad about
not what was promised. no one wanted all 35 heroes, of course the hero selection would of been limited thats such an illogical thought. You’d have the be dumb to think otherwise. And no not killing endless waves of AI this isnt left for dead or junkenstein. What people wanted was a story mode, with talent trees, playable with friends. You sound like a blizzard shill for this post.
to think they would release 35 heros into pve playable on all missions defeats the point of “story”. Could of released missions over time like 2-3 a month. Sometimes with the same characters so the talent tree would progress, some with different characters. More so though, we just wanted a playable story. And since they are now all limited time events, most people wont play them, and will never get that story. Idiot blizzard.
Made near the exact same comparison except I swapped BL2 for LoL. I guess BL is a better comparison.
And that’s really what it appeared to be. The effort to hype this up masked the idea that it was just a longer version of the existing story missions we’ve seen but with gameplay modifiers, and it seemed to be stated to be far too ambitious for what it actually was.
That being said you’re absolutely right, it wouldn’t have been an endearing experience. I go back and play BL2 at least 2-3 times a year, and L4D stay interesting due to how the game is built.
On principle the cancellation of hero mode is 110% worth the disappointment, but the mode would’ve been disappointing nonetheless. It would be interesting to see the ability system make its way into the game at some point though.

You have a point. I’ve always wondered how many new heroes they could come up with if they did that rather than spending all the time creating all these extra abilities for existing heroes. Always sounded like an absurdly enormous task. But now we lost years of new PvP content for nothing.

OP got flagged lol. Forums are salty and I like it.
Don’t speak for the community. You PvP Elitists are part of the problem and exactly why PvE can’t have nice things.
Someone has never heard of warframe. And it’s kinda sad.
I’ve played warframe for thousands of hours.
You have no idea what you are talking about.
And that game has over 50 warframe a, so guys ads of weapons, an ability swap system to take abilities from one frame and out on another, a modding system that lets you fully customise your stats, ability augments that truly change your abilities, pets, etc etc.
They just had their ten year anniversary.
Wayfinder is making a hero game and I’ll be jumping ship for that if Aaron doesn’t give us a good blog post tomorrow as promised. Im gonna force myself to be open minded.
No they are not.
I like that kind of event and was looking forward to it.
You sound like a sweaty pvp player some people like pve like me i love pve game pvp is just fun with friends.
Pve real pve with builds and team play boss fight with mechanics you have to learn and over come not this mindless pvp no stop into the same push map
You’re still getting that, but without the talent trees that were never promised for story mode.
I’m sorry for your loss, genuinely. I’m glad I don’t see the game you’re all apparently seeing in your heads cuz now I’m not dissapointed.
Nobody is able to paint me how hero missions would be replayable and exciting, everyone just states that they would, and when some attempt to describe what it would be like they word for word describes archives event with a few extra cosmetic lifts like “heros would have their own rooms and you could see them before selecting them”
Completely different topic. They didn’t change pvp for the sake of pve, they abandoned updating it. It’s different.
Maybe you would have grown tired of it OP. Not everyone shares the same view.

Maybe some people did want that (for some reason;sounds boring as hell to me) but it seems like half the people claiming that’s what they wanted are trolling just to be edgy and hop on the bandwagon of fake outrage tbh
It’s the same group of people who say they haven’t played in months or years but spam the forums any time any kind of bad news comes out, they’re just trolls
I feel bad for the people who did genuinely want that though

I don’t even need the skill tree to enjoy PVE. I don’t care about it. I’d rather it just be skill based.
Exactly i love pve games and put way way more hours in them then pvp games i find ow fun and i played way more to practice for when pve came around and it just hasnt its just not happening and its killed my hype for the game
PVE is announced for season 6 (in lesser scale given there re no hero missions - which were the longterm replayable part) but I imagine the purpose of it will be to train nd encourage new players for pvp - so the opposite of how you got into it.
And it will most likely be the same pve we have had i wanted a campaign, builds
and abilities like the promised not archives 2.0
The way the playerbase talks about it and presents it - it’s honestly a completely separate game and client to Overwatch 2 and that’s probably the reason they shut it down. It’s either make a completly new, separate game - a pve game in it’s own right, or combo seasonal pve with the current game
Or they can get a second team to work on it and have like what destiny has with pvp/pve, pvp, and pve in the same game with separate balance
Is the argument of this thread that there is not a market for a non-pvp game mode with high replayability, that such a game is impossible to make?
Because that would be a ridiculous statement. Even if it hadn’t been done already, that by no means it can’t be done, especially by a multi-billion dollar company.
Blizzard just effed up. Plain and simple. There have been multiple statements from former devs stating how for years Kotick constantly siphoned dev resources to work on side projects that never panned out or was constantly changing goals/requirements.
PVE as it was shown is not impossible, but perhaps making it under those previous (and current) is.

Like for real almost every game of the year game is a pve game
No, thats not the argument.
The argument was that the hero missions and talent trees weren’t the PVE people thought they were gonna get anyway. People are even unaware that talent trees was never intended for Story mode, and people are also unwarae that story mode (PVE) isn’t canceled but coming in season 6.
But If I was to make an argument for the hypothetical pve people talk about here and the one blizzard (i guess) had ambition to make - it would require a separate client and needed to be worked on as a completly separate game OR abandoned - which they chose.
They figured that they are in a spot where they either make a new PVE divorced from the current one or seasonally pump story missions into the current one and use scraps from the hero missions for it. Something along those lines.
