Sorry, I’m a 3D artist. Seeing the different costumes are useful to me in a variety of ways, and while I can just google images of them, it’ll be more useful to have them so I can see them without googling references for 30 minutes, and even see them in motion.
I can’t just “kill the collecting mindset” because its ingrained into my workflow. Essentially, you’re saying “Just find a new way to work!” as a way to defend some corporation for no reason.

Just save your coins for passes that are actually decent, ie, have a hero. That is what I plan to do.
Oh no, you have to actually pay for additional content?? It’s not just free??? Oh noooo!!! $10 is way too much!!!
That’s you. That’s what you sound like.
you disgrace ur player icon. sombra would never sellout

It’s a lot compared to the same items in OW1. They are making things like sprays, icons, charms, etc seem so special but it’s the same content you could get for FRACTIONS of the same money as it was in OW1. They are inflating the value of these things. Easiest solution, stop caring about all the ‘content’ - all I care about is maps, heroes, modes.
You paid $60 for the base game, but you won’t pay $10 for the sequel? Bizarre.
“You don’t want to pay 10$ repeatly so you can have a META hero? Do you not have a phone? Are you poor?”
That’s you.
I could be spending 10$ on food or better entertainment.

But it is though. I can buy food to live for $10, or entire games for $10, or maybe even go to a thrift shop for clothes to see what that $10 does for me.
Right now, on steam, the entire Batman Arkham collection is $8.99. That’s two great games and one game that’s literally legendary, and all the DLC that comes with them.
With $10, Would you rather have THREE GAMES and all the DLC for those games, and have change to spare (that I’d use in TF2’s store lmao), or one skin with some little trinkets attached to it?

Good news is a bunch of new skins aren’t great. JQ literally just has the same skin in 8 different colors.

are u new to this monetization system or something? the good stuff is almost never in the pass (which is mostly junk anyway). wait a few more weeks for them to add stuff in the store and you’ll see a lot of the goods locked behind a paywall. in 2016 i could buy a game with all of its gamemodes and more cosmetics than everything in the current OW2 store. but rn the OW2 battlepass store is nearly empty but the prices of all the skins in their already exceeds 60$.
in sum, i’d rather pay for a full game upfront than get to play an incomplete game for free that’s only purpose is to serve as whale bait.

The problem with your mindset for me is, that while there’s a lot of decent OW1 skins, they by and large haven’t hit my weak spots that hard. On the other hand, it’s looking like OW2 skin design is much more likely exploit the themes and such I’m in to and result in a lot of “must-haves”.
I actually do have a lot of self-restraint and am very good at not buying things I find a rip-off. But, that will mean killing off a not unsubstantial part of why I like Overwatch (it’s visuals), and unless things get more friendly, inevitably going to drive me away from the game entirely.

cosmetics have always been a huge selling point for OW in general and idk why ppl are starting to downplay this. what OW lacked for in their campaign and game modes they tried to make up for with their skins, animations (emotes, highlight intros), and other cosmetics. now that a lot of this stuff is being locked being ridiculous paywalls (exceeding the base prices of OW many times over all things considered) I also see myself falling out of love with the franchise.

I don’t care for cosmetics… but I do care about heroes
I can’t play right now… and I do fear I won’t be able to get the heroes
I never played OW for skins, I played it because it’s fun, if it’s fun I could care less about cosmetics, I would think more ppl would think like me but maybe not idk
and what about the sense of progression in the long term ? in league of legends we couldn’t get skins back in the days , but we could get IP and buy runes , champions , name change and some icons during events , and by doing that you could feel you hit a milestone , and now you can literally get free skins and free RP if you play long enough and complete the missions daily , and riot games still makes tons of money even tho they r giving away free skins and RP , Ranked games are something else , you literally get a special border for the whole season and an exclusive skin if you reach gold
In OW2 theres no sense of progression for free to play players , whats there to grind for ? you’re playing the same modes over and over every single day , you can’t get skins , you can’t get player cards/ icons or coins to buy skins , so why are you playing in the first place ? even competitive doesn’t offer any good rewards , only some gold weapon and titles, they even removed the sprays and icons , i’ll like OW2 more when they provide all fo the above things that i mentioned , i want to play to have fun , thats for sure , but at the end of the day , it is more fun to invest your time and energy and actually gain something as a flex , i don’t wanna just pew pew random players everyday
The harsh reality is we’re programmed to want to be rewarded, and that’s part of why Battle Passes are predatory in general.
This is the point people like you need to understand.
Then you also have to realize for DECADES it was the norm to receive rewards in a game just by progressing, this whole only getting things if you cough up more cash is a relatively recent thing, and it’s a horrible precedent that preys on people psychologically.
If you don’t believe that last point give The Addictive Cost Of Predatory Videogame Monetization by Jim Sterling a good attentive watch. Or just look up Torulf Jernström and his strategies that outright, blatantly state that they’re predatory and meant to prey on consumers by specifically targeting that desire to be rewarded.
I have more fun if I feel cool while playing. It is not necessary and I will always take a fun game over a game with good cosmetics… But I can value both.
Welcome to 2022 my guy. All the highest pop games been doin this last five years. Theorycraft all you want but your 40 dollar one time boxed game is not viable anymore. Move on dude, this is not a hill worth dying on.
