Except I actually play a lot of mercy.
I respect your views OP. And thank you for sharing them!
For me, going back is certainly the best way.
I never felt so impactful than I did when I played Mercy with her Mass res. Directly punishing enemy plays with bad ult economy, and making them think twice before using it made the otherwise weak self-defense in her kit worth it for me.
I don’t like how this rework was handled. In my opinion, Mercy getting a rework wasn’t necessary. I believe if they simply gave mass rez with tweaks like a LOS, damage reduction instead of invulnerability (a really silly patch on their part IMO) and seeing how it would go from there, they would have had a lot less issues to worry about in terms of whether or not she would have become OP for 5 months and a must pick (like she’s had in Valkyrie).
From what I’ve understood, Valkyrie was intended to make Mercy both more engaging to play and make her less “frustrating to play against”. I think that while they have succeeded in the later, I can’t help but feel annoyed at the lack of impact it tends to have now. This is all my own opinion though, so do take it as you will.
“This was a huge success.”

Glad you enjoy spectator mode. I on the other hand hate it immensely.
Aww, hey bb. Did you miss me? <3
The last time i made a post similar to this it got deleted because of people telling me I shouldn’t be dealing damage during fights and that they would report me and that they feel sorry for my team, where they go tho…
OUR cold dead hands buddy! OURS!!! DEFEND THE MERCY!
Tbh that sentence is concerning to me. If Mercy is a pure healer why should someone’s main focus go from using her to keep her team alive, to helping them kill? Isn’t that the role of someone like zen or moira to assist in finishing enemies?
Im a little bit torn between the state of Mercy. I like that other supports are viable now (it was pretty boring having to have a mercy every match) but to me Mercy just feels super weak. I’m not saying she’s useless, as you said she’s perfectly fine as an off-healer. However for someone’s kit to primarily revolve around constant healing to be an off healer, feels weird. It’d be like calling Rein and off tank.
That being said its great you’ve adapted and continue have fun with Mercy though. This is a refreshing post.
So basically, Mercy isn’t Mercy anymore?
I mean it’s all well and good if you like playing no-Mercy, but there are already dozens of other not-Mercy heroes to play already, so why not play them and let people who actually like Mercy have Mercy bacK?
This is sort of like reading a post from that one way too enthusiastic guy at college who bought a 20k screenprinting kit, and he doesn’t know ANYTHING about business or screenprinting, but BY GOD is he going to do it.
And then his solution is to offer dance lessons in his screenprinting studio.
A lot of people are pointing out the obvious lore contradictions of Mercy as an offensive off-healer, and I get the sentiment, but Blizzard honestly hasn’t done enough with Overwatch’s lore for it to control balance decisions. They released Moira as even more of a “pure” healer than Mercy in terms of gameplay, and unlike Mercy, Moira offers no other utility. When Mercy truly had top-tier healing, she smothered the rest of the support cast, and balance is more important than trying to salvage some lore alignment.
Unless Blizzard is way, way more daring than I give them credit for, and Mercy will have some character crisis in the lore that moves her towards a more hostile “fallen angel” theme. That would be crazy.
Did you ever get to try the Mercy re-work when it was super op Murderzilla on the PTR?
If so what did you think of that style of capability on her?
Here’s a clip of someone using it if you never got to try it (warning profanity)
150 percent increased team damage? Can I see what numbers you’re using for this? Because I am POSITIVE that is incorrect.
Hah, that’s crazy, but I think the only difference from live in that clip is that Mercy was even faster in Valk (plus OP Nano Boost). She still has infinite ammo and doubled projectile speed, and I definitely like the aggressive style that enables. I’m not sure they can buff Valk any further without making her literally unkillable, but some kind of offensive buff to her base kit would be sweet.
Seems pretty straightforward, unless I’m missing something. Damage boost increases damage output by 30% and Valk spreads the effect to up to 5 teammates. 30% damage * 5 teammates = 150% collective damage increase for the team.
She had increased rate of fire and increased damage then too so you could get a bit crazier than you can now.
Wait wouldn’t it still be a 30% increase though
Not contradicting your argument, just tryna get numbers right
been playing like this in quick play as i havent touched comp in a bit, and i’d say yeah, she’s more of an off-healer/mini-dps at this point. it’s great that we’re finding ways to play her, but i think what upsets most mercy mains (me also, a bit) is that this playstyle is the complete opposite of what her character is about (pacifist, defensive-focused, single-target, go-to healer). i’m not sure how much people care about the consistency of the character and his/her playstyle but for me it matters alot, since it’s what made me buy the game
Yeah! A conch member! I also happen to love mercy as she is, and agree quite a bit about her need to be aggressive now. I said in one of my previous posts that I look at Valkyrie as Mercys last ditch effort to swing the battle in her favor. She’s got a sidearm for a reason. I say we use it.
Hear me out though: instead of an ult charge increase for damage boost, give her a faster projectile speed. It certainly can’t be argued that this makes her more skillful, awards people with good aim, brings in more opportunity to use transferable skills, and still doesn’t make her op.
That’s some spicy math.
Yeah, that’s not how that works.
For example, 1.3(9)+1.3(5)+1.3(6)+1.3(8)+1.3(5)=42.9
1.3(9+5+6+8+5)=1.3(33)=42.9
NOT equal to 42.9+1.5(42.9) which equals 107.25
You know, before the patch I tried playing ana a lot. It was near impossible to maintain a 50% wr or higher. Every. Single. Game. I went in knowing I was soft throwing by not playing mercy.
After a loss I lost and knew I couldve won if I played mercy.
But I couldve won if i stopped focusing on how good ana was and started focusing on how good my ana was.
And its OK now that you are in that position. Just mute the haters and move on. But you can not run from your own perceptions of balance…
I actually like your play style.
