You are not entitled to a shield tank

I’ve explained what a social contract was… several times. What part of the concept are you having trouble with?

So to be clear, as an ideal approach to the game, are you or are you not advocating one tricking?

I never said it was mandatory, but when it’s needed, one of the tanks has an obligation to be able to play one effectively. You’re advocating that a person has no such obligation to play a shield tank irrespective of what’s happening in the match. I’m advocating that they do. I’d suspect that your view on this has lead to more frustration and lost matches than mine, but I can only speculate on this, without the data.

So yes, if you’re arguing that a person has no responsibility to have an adequately deep hero pool to adapt to situations that very commonly present themselves, we’re not going to agree on that. Questions of what one “ought” to do have no objective right and wrongs, because people’s goals are different. However, I’d argue that some goals lend themselves more to the public good than others.

You are not entitled to a shield tank

It’s true, in this game nobody is entitled to anything.
Everyone for himself, the Matchmaker is great at evaluating the skills of individual players, it works great. And because it works so well, role queue is actually no longer necessary. Great Game.

If you think that is true (it’s not) then pick one. The rest of your post is irrelevant.

Call it what you want. Your idea was refuted as absurd.

This is a horrible mindset! This is a Co-op game! Why are you playing a Co-op game
if you don’t care about playing for your team? The toxicity is so bad and this is why people can’t enjoy the game. The same people saying you’re not entitled to a shield are the same people crying about not being healed. Go play something else if you can’t cooperate please…

A horrible and selfish mindset is to expect some arbitrary meta from 5 random players. If you think you are so bad that you absolutely need 5 ppl to carry you with a very specific infallible selection of heroes, I’d suggest you get an actual team.

I know this is an old post, but I love Sigma last point Havana with a Widow. I put a shield up for her and she can literally stand there and take shots without a worry in sight.

Sigma and Widow on Havana is actually kind of busted.

This game has the worse cover ever, and hitboxes are so big you can get hit around cover anyway. Sorry, this isn’t a good excuse.

I had a game where a DF and a lucio we’re getting mad that we didn’t have a shield tank… A DF AND A LUCIO OF ALL HEROES. I bring up natural cover and they disregard it and continue to go on with things like “we can’t play as a team without a shield” and came up with a straw man "about ults. And you bet BOTH of them were acting like mccrees and anas sitting inside or behind the team as heroes with like the most mobility in the game DOJT YA LOVE THIS COMMUNITY

A) Why did you necro this post, and

B) See many of the posts above, but if you want a specific kind of tank in your game, play that tank. If the tanks go Ball/Winston, why does one of the DPS usually go Widow or Ashe instead of dive? Why does one of the heals usually play Ana? If DPS want teamplay, lead by example; otherwise, stop complaining.

I know Ana can work with dive, as can Widow, but it doesn’t mean they are optimal or the easiest to run in that comp.

As main support:
No shield then I will be a little more behind our tanks so you can expect a lot less healing.
Or maybe I will pocket the hitscan. Maybe I will play Brig…
But yeah, I don’t care if you pick a shield tank or not
