Hazard and Torb have really fun really varied stadium kits
cosmetics are all solid, best BP in a while, 2 nice mythics, okay shop skins
2 mythics per season going forward is cool
The meh
Sojourn is in stadium. Did anyone know that? Honestly the most sojourn thing ever
base game balance patch was a bit of a nothingburger but I’m not sure if any huge changes were really needed
Haunted masquerade is just okay. Lot of the abilities just feel clunky or require too much coordination to get value out of, it sucks when you can’t form a team up, it’s locked to control which sucks, it’s really the best 5 or so abilities carrying the whole thing. Not bad, but definitely not as good as the past 3 halloween events, I wouldn’t mind too much if we weren’t down to only 1 or 2 of these types of modes per year
The bad
This is the first season in a very long time with no non-balance changes whatsoever to the base game
Stadium gadgets have missed the mark. Typically it’s 0-2 people per lobby who have one equipped and it’s usually 1 of the same 3. It’s just a tough sell getting people to sell a strong passive item for a long cooldown ability they will likely forget to use. Presentation on these is just boring too
Random stadium ana rework for zero reason whatsoever and removed a bunch of beloved items/powers. Her kit was fine but now she has double antiheal for some reason so now she’s less fun to play and tank is less fun to play
Stadium Best of 5 format, I think it’s salvageable and has a few benefits, but the rollout was rough you could tell this was a last-minute decision by how you could only afford like 60% of a build before the hotfix. I think it’s nice getting an item on round 2 and the bigger shakeup from round to round helps to break stomps, but there was so much strategy and such a distinct feeling to each phase of the game in the original stadium format and that’s gone
I don’t know the first thing about one punch man, but that wuyang skin is probably the worst skin in over a year
I’m not as pessimistic as I was on day one since I’ve started to see some potential in best of 5 and I’ve found a few fun abilities in the masquerade mode, but yeah it’s still a generous 6/10
We do still have one season left this year after the current one ends, and there’s every chance that one ends up being even worse :p
Also I generally try to wait until most of the season has passed before giving my overall thoughts on it, but so far, I’d say this season does feel pretty on par with season 17, which was my least favourite season ever in the entire history of Overwatch.
Agreed 100%. Theres a couple cool things (Druid Lifeweaver looks incredible) like what you mentioned but the Ok, underwhelming content with the bad content/choices really outweigh all the cool stuff. I just dont get it! S18 was my favorite season in the history of Overwatch, then we get this? What the flip happened…
Eh, they’re on a hot streak with heroes for me right now. Freja needed some tuning which was done, Wuyang probably needs a little more, but he’s so fun to play. Which is the most important part of any design.
They need to do a LOT with the balance though. Season 16 was great, then they added CC and increased the DPS passive which made the whole game feel much worse. I really hope either that or BO7 Stadium comes back, so I at least have one mode to enjoy.
plus mithyc weapon can be bought only through mithyc prisms instate 40$ in blizz/ps/xbox store. so you need spend 2x more money to get that weapon
plus if we get another mythic skin so again you need spend more money.
if ppl not buy that junkrat skin we get 1 mythic per season (and thats good and bad)
good - less money to spend, every her o will get their skin in season theme
bad - more money spend, that secound mithyc skin will be detached from season theme, it will be in mid season just to get ppl get back to play.
I get it they getting low on pay cheks but damn that change is just bad, very not pro-customer.
I don’t play Stadium, but yes, I feel this season is gonna be pretty boring.
No new map for the standard game and I feel like they’re being very lazy balancing only perks… Ok Wuyang’s base kit was touched but… As if it wasn’t. In the meanwhile Tracer and Genji keep staying broken and it’s getting boring, especially with Tracer in every match. They refused to address Lifeweaver and Moira’s issues. Honestly it just feels like it’s still season 18 if you don’t play Stadium.
