I don’t know what happened with the update. But after it it keep putting me on Australian and South American servers. And i have like twice as much ping on East coast where i normally play. (only way to get on them is by joining via friends) Nothing has changed on my end, i played only a few hours prior to the update and everything was normal. And my internet is normal, the only issue i have is with Overwatch.

Can you try to run a WinMTR test manually pointing to the U.S. central server? (Skip step 5 in these instructions and follow the manual IP entry instructions at the bottom.)
WinMTR instructions:
- Download WinMTR from Download WinMTR-v092.zip (WinMTR) (Console players need a Windows Desktop Computer connected to the same network as their console to do this.)
- Unzip the WinMTR.zip file to the Desktop.
- Open the WinMTR folder and select the 32 or 64 bit version. Choose whichever one corresponds to your version of Windows.
- Run the WinMTR.exe
- Type the IP address you want to trace in the “Host” field. To get the correct IP you will actually need to open up the game and go Practice Vs AI or Quick Play and if you are on PC hit Ctrl+Shift+N and it will bring up the ingame network diagnostic graph, or go to Video > Options > Display Network Performance Graph if you are on any platform including Console. In the top left corner is the IP address you want to run WinMTR to.
note When looking at the IP it will show up ingame as something like 12.34.56.78:12345. You will want to leave the last 5 digits and the colon at the end off and the IP you want to use is just the 12.34.56.78 - Once you notice the connection issue while playing, play for about 6 more minutes, minimize the game and click on “Stop”.
- Click on “Copy text to clipboard”, then return to this forum thread.
- Type two sets of four squiggly lines and then paste the contents of the WinMTR test between:

WinMTR v0.92 GPL V2 by Appnor MSP - Fully Managed Hosting & Cloud Provider ~~~~The 8th hub seems to be the problem, the latency instantly spikes up more than 100 milliseconds from the previous hub, and it seems to reroute through several more hubs than normal. There may be a connection break between you and the most direct route to the U.S. central servers. The best option at this time is to share this WinMTR with your ISP and they might be able to use the information to correct whatever issue is present.

We’ve actually noticed this happening for a lot of players since the patch. Currently we’re trying to narrow this down a bit. Please keep in mind if you see this post and are having problems in Australia/New Zealand, that’s another issue you can read up on here.
It looks like for some reason, several people are being routed to Japan on the way to the Los Angeles servers, which is extremely inefficient.
If you started having this problem exactly on July 16, 2019, please create a WinMTR test which catches a disconnection. You will use this IP address for the test:
24.105.62.129
You want to restart the test every 10-15 minutes until you catch one of these problems. Once you’ve caught one red handed, run the test for about 5 more minutes. This will let us look for problems between your house and our servers which may cause this.
If you have problems with posting it due to a link error, go ahead and copy paste this into your next post, and replace “WinMTR goes here” with your test.

~~~~Here is a giant waste of time. Fix it. The Summer Games event should also be extended to provide time to resolve your connection issues. Because those of us with these server problems will not be playing your precious event, of which the content is quite a disappointment anyway.

I’m having the same issue. I used to play on 40-60ms and now I’m at a constant 150ms for QP and 200ms for Comp. Is this a routing issue that will be resolved on Blizzard’s end, or do we need to take steps with our ISP?

Normal latency should be around 200 ms to east coast servers and 10 ms higher to west coast. Now it’s routing through japan when I connect to both east or west servers. The issue began yesterday after the patch.

I’m playing from US West and choose American Server but it seems that it rerouted me to Japan Server.
So how long is this going to take for bliz to sort out? A few days? A week? End of summer event? Never? Can someone give us an answer so we don’t kill ourselves holding our breath? Is that too much to ask just to have someone like I don’t know, tell us something?

I am likely experiencing the same issue, here is my post from another thread.
I currently use a wired tethered connection. I usually experience 50-70ms ping with the occasional spike (usually due to a lack of bandwidth). But now I ping to blizzard servers at ~180ms. I have little to no control over my network, however, I am not experiencing any other differences in other games or pinging other servers. Below is the attached WinMTR test.
EDIT: should probably mention I’m in NA connecting to NA Central
