Overwatch really deserves its own animated series, doesn’t it?
I’m not sure if Blizzard’s already got something like this in the works but honestly, it’d be such a brilliant idea if they actually went for it. They keep saying they’ve got plans or they’re “looking into it” but it never really happens, does it?
Overwatch has one of the richest worlds in gaming, full of emotion, style and heart. Blizzard’s cinematics already prove they can make proper magic when they try. Every short feels alive, but it’s over in seconds and we’re all just left wanting more.
Imagine a full animated series though. Something with the same love and care as Arcane, but with its own soul. Numbani, Dorado, Junkertown, Talon — all those places have so much personality they could easily carry their own episode.
And it’s not like it hasn’t worked before. Arcane smashed it and brought in loads of people who’d never touched League. Cyberpunk: Edgerunners made everyone fall for that world again. Castlevania? Pure class. DOTA: Dragon’s Blood kept people watching for ages.
When studios actually trust their own stories and give proper writers and animators the space to go wild, it just works. Overwatch already has the heart, it just needs a bit of love and belief again.
It’d do Blizzard a world of good too, get people talking again and remind everyone what made them great storytellers in the first place, not just a company flogging fancy skins.
