Worst Community in Gaming history?

I feel bad for enjoying Fire Emblem… I cant even look at Genshin without going “why?”

I always hung around great people, so in my case, it was a situation of literally playing along for fun. The only thing that stopped me is me noticing a legitimate pipeline with online bad behavior seeping into reality. I never wanted to be perceived as one of “those” gamers, so I just stopped with the nonsense. Mostly.

Clearly you’ve never played Mordhau

LoL still has the worst one. But OW 2 is not a good one either.

LOL aint that bad, it has a bad rep but if you report someone who is toxic, they get punished so hard they have to make a new account to play again.

LOL bans the free portion of the game when you get banned. so you cannot play anymore, lmao, no more exp, no more loot boxes, nothing

Thankfully I met a great group of people. We weren’t all that matured yet, but some of us had greater influence than others… and we all, for the most part, followed into becoming better people… or maybe we just grew up. Hard to say.

But now I’m 35. I don’t have the energy or mindset or emotional investment to screech at someone like my name was Kyle and I had 5 Monsters for dinner.

Gaming itself is too important to me, more than that place holder for therapy.

Report and move on, Skynet is here

Or make your best Dinasaur noise.

Its both…

As blizzard is trying to play both sides of a conflict of interests…

the demographic of players who are beneficial to the health of the game and playerbase, and the most profitable demographic, are almost never the same people…

Put very simply those players who are Statistically most likely to throw money at the game, are also more likely to struggle with the game due to its complexity, as such measures are put into place to help mitigate those players taking their money to other games due to loss frustrations…

As a result you effectively end up with a divided playerbase thats in near constant conflict between the 2 sides…

Instead taking steps to individually accommodate these two separate conflicting sides, blizzard forces them together… and though things like matchmaking and the report system, they encourage this conflict…

Aren’t all communities toxic? Mix passion, ignorance and strangers and you get a toxic brew.

From what I’ve heard, league of legends has the worst community.

From personal experience, I would say even overwatch doesn’t compete with a game I used to play called Elsword. These days, the gameplay is 100% “throw thousands of hours and dollars at your stats to win; skill and technique aren’t factors.”

The community that created is full of the most sensitive, self-entitled, “hahaha my depression is funny but it’s not but it is,” wince-inducing garbage.

It’s impossible for FFXIV players to be toxic because we’re just staring at a bell in Limsa all day. https://i.imgur.com/r1zUm60.jpg

Techinally everyone and everything is toxic, since its essentially just a stigma word, people use to demonize that which they dont like or disagree with

Or a means to try to justify or excuse their own intolerance

I love how Limsa is basically the designated “main town” despite several patches/expansions and prettier areas lol. I haven’t even finished EW yet and I still spend more time hanging out there popping ques.

LoL has the doubtful honor of having the most toxic community out there. OW is not even close.

The barbarities I’ve read in that game
make OW look like a healthy environment. Don’t you ever play LoL.

For real though.

They built Sharlayan to be the perfect new hangout city, but after the first raid tier, everyone just went back to their old spots.

I just finally got a medium house in Mist, so I just hang out there now.

I was trying for a while to get a medium house for me and my gf.

Ya… we gave up on that fantasy pretty quick lol.

Now I just cast regen, dot, holy and glare, then use the lean emote on a pillar in Limsa. :man_shrugging:

Let’s see…

Team dependent game
Variety of roles in which carry different functions
High level of understanding of inter-team/role dependencies and combinations

People expect to play like a solo fos and then get upset at their team mates when playing that way fails…

I interacted with the community in game, several days a week. I think that suffices.

Do you not remember the XboX Halo 1 and 2 lobbies or is your brain just shutting that out to protect itself?

OW comp is a special breed of toxicity and I’ve not really experienced the animosity/tilt I feel from most other games, because of how this game is designed and administrated. Your progress and rank are completely & directly tied to 5-6 others (strangers) and you often need to work as a team better than the enemy to advance, with few exceptions. If you team up to try and fix that, you get much harder enemies. When you consider how this game does matchmaking, encouraged smurfs, throwers, leavers, etc. to still affect your rank in games with bad behaviour (and how reporting/avoids effectively do nothing), that breaks something in many people, and they express those negative feelings in sometimes the most negative ways.

I wouldn’t ever play LoL due to what I’ve heard of the community, and I’ve felt similarly for DOTA2, COD, and others. OW was supposed to be better and more inclusive (combat evolved, if you will), but what we were sold vs what we’re still given to this day has consistently fallen short of the mark, and that’s completely on Blizzard for marketing like that then doing about the bare minimum on toxicity since like 2018 (or before).

Certain people will be toxic regardless, but this game makes people way more toxic than they’d have to be in other environments.
