Wired vs wireless mice

Do you guys use wired or wireless mice? :video_game:

I’ve always used wired because of its simplicity, but I’m thinking of getting a wireless mouse because the wire is starting to annoy me 🤦

For FPS games does it really make a difference or nah?

Normally wireless have a bit higher latency, can be subject to battery dies and interference.

If you don’t mind it or don’t focus much on comp. I would suggest wired one.

On competitive games, often less input lag and more hz paired with stable fps means better overall experience. Doesn’t mean would make you better or worst.

So in the end it’s up to player. But wireless often has those 3 issues. The latency itself often it’s minimal, but the other issues can be problematic.

My issue with wireless ended up breaking several times due to mechanical fatigue. I used 2 side buttons and those frequently were not well rated for high repetition. The constant need for batteries was also annoying.

Usually, mechanical endurance of a mouse and wired seemed to go hand-in-hand. The wire was annoying sure, but it wasn’t that dreadful.

Wireless mice are pretty much the same as wired these days. Tons of pros in fps games are using them now. If they are good enough to be used by pros with tons of money on the line, they are just fine for the rest of us. Personally been using a wireless one past couple years, never noticed a difference and its more convenient. Also the battery lasts me a couple weeks, and im on my computer a lot. Only takes a couple hrs to charge it back up.

wireless is bad. you can either go with a battery powered one, or one you haft to recharge. battery powered mice are not good, they always feel hollow yet very heavy at the exact same time, and charging mice suck because who wants to charge their mouse lmao lol. i would rather go with a much cheaper wired mouse that im not gonna haft to charge, its going to be just as fine if not better than the wireless one

I used wireless before it was good but now that there’s no significant difference between the two, I actually find myself switching between mice, some wired, some wireless. With a glass pad, a bungee or equivalent, and an aftermarket paracord cable(or equivalently soft stock cable), the difference is noticeable, but completely negligible.

That said, wireless typically adds to cost and weight, and many of the mice I use don’t have a wireless variant to begin with.

I personally focus on shape and weight first, and figure out wired/wireless later, if the option exists at all.

Both. Wireless for aim intensive games and wired for anything else. But if I return home from uni with my gaming laptop I just use wireless to play/set up easily. My wireless mouse is extremely light compared to my wired one.

Wireless Mouse:
Razer Viper Ultimate (rechargeable through a dock)
20,000 DPI

Wired Mouse:
Razer Mamba Elite
16,000 DPI

I always had rather cheap wired mice until last year where I switched to a wireless mouse (Logitech G305, for roughly 35€). It’s definitely not very expensive (because you can spend up to 150€ for those things) but in my opinion it feels a million times better than those wired things I had before.
The wire was something that annoyed me insanely much as well, constantly getting stuck somewhere, dragging across the table, coiling up weirdly and so on, all that is gone with the wireless mouse (I also bought a much bigger mouse pad).
Latency-wise I can’t feel much of a difference, if anything, the wireless mouse feels a lot more responsive (it has adjustable DPI settings) and unless you are playing like one of the top 1% players you will probably never know or feel the difference between a 35€ wireless mouse and a 150€ one. The battery consumption is very good as well, I only had to switch the battery 3 times since I bought (which is more than one year ago by now) it and I am always on the highest DPI setting while using my computer almost every day up to 8 hours (not only gaming but also due to work and university).
The most important thing is that the mouse has a good feeling in your hand.

for desktops I go wired cause

  • better latency
  • no issues regarding battery charge
  • cheaper

like I’m not taking the mouse with me to other rooms. I’d do so for a laptop that I’m moving between rooms for meetings and as such, but that’s obvs outside the realm of OW and in terms of a desktop.

I use wireless, had a wired when I first got my PC, but the cord kept annoying me, and so I bought a wireless G502 to replace my wired one.

There is absolutely no difference in wired vs wireless, and charging it is absolutely no big deal, you can always just plug it in at night before you go to bed or when your not playing which is what I typically do.

Wired. I had wireless for a while and my battery always died in the middle of the game, cause battery indicator was placed on spot, where I was covering it with my hand. Never again…

Wireless for 10 years.

Wireless is fine. The amount of latency for wireless these days is negligible. But if you are concerned with latency, Logitech has a specific line of wireless mice for gaming that supposedly have lower latency than their non-gaming mice.

I think wired vs wireless isn’t as big a deal as some people make it out to be. Be more concerned with the resolution of the laser and the refresh time. It’s actually entirely possible for a wireless mouse to be better than a wired mouse if the optical tracking is better.

There are pro’s and cons to both.

Anyone who says one is better than the other hasn’t tried them all.

I use a wired mouse purely because there isn’t a wireless version of the mouse I use.

Latency with good quality 2.4GHz wireless mouse is negligible and you won’t be able to perceive the difference. The couple of high quality wireless mice I have tried did have interference issues though. I guess I just have too many other 2.4GHz wireless devices already in my study.

Lithium AA batteries used in modern wireless mice can last up to a year before needing to be replaced.

Wireless mice are normally heavier.

Rechargeable mice can often be used wired while charging or wirelessly, so there is no real downside to having to charge the mouse as you don’t have to sit and wait for it before you can game.

Wired mice generally have far fewer connection issues unless your cable gets damaged or you have dodgy usb ports.

Wired mice are normally lighter but the cable can add overall weight and drag. A basic mouse bungy helps eliminate a lot of cable drag and stops it getting caught on monitor stand feet etc.

Personally, I’d say find a mouse that fits your hand comfortably for your type of grip and is a weight you are comfortable with. If the model you like comes in wireless and wired then give the wireless one a shot.

Wireless, but not because of performance

I just really don’t like having too much cable. Especially when I have to move my laptop around for work.

Wire. The wire doesn’t bother me and I don’t like change.

Wireless gaming mice basically have the same latency as wired now a days, so IMO wired is the way to go.

With any reasonable gaming mouse this is just not true anymore and proven so. I use equally a Razer DeathAdder pro wireless and on wire and its literally indistinguishable. Logitech also has wireless with no more latency.

FWIW, Linus Tech tips and others have done real scientific measurements that simply proven with a good gaming mouse its now equal.

Wired. I also have a wireless mouse and it randomly stutters. It apparently works fine in the other room, but not on my rig. Probably because it’s closer to the wifi than it is to the PC.

Anyway, even if it worked, i still prefer the wired. The wireless is pretty heavy.

Wireless is 1000x better.

I played on wired for a long time, but after switching to wireless I cant go back.

The mouse is so insanely light, theres 0 friction, it’s so much better.
