Winston 3 second jump?

Dva got a buff to improve dive so is it fair to give Winston a shorter cool down to his only mobility? His shield although good is not available all the time like defense matrix. Although I do feel that would make him the best dive rank due to his AoE lock on attack

Although I think Winston would make games hellish for supports so idk

No, the D.va buff was stupid and the balance team for this game is trash. Put that on winston and there is literally no point in playing the majority of the characters on the roster. On top of the fact that his ult makes it easy to solo kill with a 2 second cd with less damage.
Snipers and flankers would be completely useless since they have no way to escape. Regardless of what you say widowmaker isn’t that hard to kill/counter. The fact that dva can dive into widow 4 times before widow has 1 grapple is a problem. Not to mention dva has 600 hp(200 armor) and can absorb your projectiles while dealing damage to you at the same time.

I’ve been playing a good deal of Winston lately, and I legitimately think he’s in a good spot. The only thing keeping him from being viable is the top two DPS (Mei and Mcree) being some of the hardest dive counters a DPS can be.

Honestly I always felt Winston was really squishy. Dva has tons more armor so getting shot in the back from a reaper isn’t a problem for her.

I gotta keep it real… I would never play support again if this were thing. :joy: Like Iso said, flankers would be powerless against him too. Soldier? Don’t even bother picking him.

I actually don’t believe that a hero exists that could deal with this reliably, besides maybe Sombra. D.Va is still very easy to damage once she takes flight, whereas Winston’s leaps are extremely fast.

winston jump should be 4 seconds and they should give him +100 armor otherwise hes a joke

jumps in. dies. every time. hes been the worst tank for 4 years straight

Yeah, this would be whack on Winston. It’s already barely tolerable on D.Va imo.

Playing support against that would be a nightmare. Mercy’s GA is on like a 2 second cooldown per use, so even she, one of the most mobile heroes in the game, wouldn’t even be able to escape from that. Playing Ana and Zen would be out of the question unless you were just being absolutely guarded by a Reaper or Mei at all times.

Not to mention, Winston could jump straight up and then only have a fraction of cooldown once he hit the ground before he could jump again. It also makes the difference between his normal kit and his ultimate even less noteworthy.

I definitely think that Winston could use some changes, but I don’t think that buffing his jetpack is the way to go. With him and D.Va buffed, I feel like we’d just roll back around to “Dive, but Faster”

Thing is winston is already pretty tough with a 700hp shield. While I admit a better jump would be nice, he would have to give something up to get it. As it stands it already gives him very good mobility, near instantly crosses a very long distance and does dmg to an AoE upon landing.

Not to mention the ability to clip a melee attack in as you land. Winston’s leap isn’t just mobility, it is also good source of dmg so it being on a very short CD would need some nerfs.

I think you’d have to remove the damage from his jump’s landing to compensate… but maybe add an AOE Boop effect to it :man_shrugging:t2:

Power creep killed Winston. I was a Winston main right up until the reaper rework then after Brig came out and I gave up.

McCree is the Winston killer nowadays…

I wouldn’t mind him getting some armor or shields for every enemy staggered by his landing… (kind of like how Doom generates temporary personal shields with his abilities.) Perhaps the higher or further the jump, the more armor or shields Winston generates for each enemy hit by it.

Hell no…
Immobile squishies would become unplayable…

ironic because zarya eats those for lunch and breakfast and dinner.

His jump pack needs -1 sec cooldown if we are gonna leave Mei and McCree powerful.
