Winning 2 SR in Masters?

So many times I’ve noticed I’m getting less than 24 SR, which I came to believe is an average for winning a match in masters. But what about those weird matches where my tank role (3.56) is being placed against T500 DPS and GM players? first of all, the match is clearly unbalanced. Placing a GM next to Plat player does not equals having a rank of Diamond. Secondly, even when I do win against enemies that are ONLY higher than my rank (much higher), how in the hell does it make sense I’m getting only 2 SR?

Not just Masters, I’m leveling up from Bronze to Silver, and a couple of games I only got 2 SR even though I won and it was consecutive win games

First it is important to remember that you are now in the top 3% of the entire player pool. So your skill rating adjustments since the introduction of role queue is going to having the following factors that can impact gains and losses (sometimes severely).

  • Frequency of Play - While the game does not have any decay anymore, there is still a factor of how often you are playing. If you are not playing Competitive very often (like less than 1 game a week), the matchmaker is going to be less certain how reliable your hidden MMR will be and that can negatively affect adjustments.
  • Strength of Schedule - Matchmaking since the introduction of role queue is much looser and that can mean statistically one-sided battles. Be mindful of these match-ups if you see them. Like all ELO systems you earn more points if you defeat a statically stronger team than your own personal skill rating/hidden MMR and earn much less if defeat a statically weaker team.
  • Position on the ladder - the higher you are on the ranks, the less you will earn on a win. This is typically very noticeable in Grand Masters but can be a factor across all ranks.
