I don’t see her needing redeeming when she hasn’t been directly responsible for anything she’s done (supposedly).
However, I think the more interesting way to explain her story-line & maybe even “redeem” her actions would be for her to have had her own emotions removed, rather than them being taken by force.
In this instance she would’ve done so in order to be able to kill Gerard, someone she (& only she) knew wasn’t the paragon of virtue he’s been built up to be.
This enhances the tragedy of her character, presents an actual emotional & ideological dilemma that Amelie truly would’ve suffered through, & on top of all that gives her her own genuine motivation, character flaws & personal sacrifice.
“Gerard was a fool to love someone like you.”
“You don’t know anything about him.”
