Yeah, they assuredly did. The salient question is whether changing their mind after the game was released, and continuing to release fun-first casual heroes even after changing their mind was detrimental to the game.
I’d say yes. It’s apparent to anyone with critical thinking skills that’s been playing the game since day 1. The conflict between the nascent esports scene and the origin and development of the game has been vastly damaging to the game as a whole. Overwatch 2 is an effort to rejigger the bones of the game as a more fundamentally esports-viable product.
