They are turning tanks into giant dps, give dps more damage and all cc out of abilities, and nerfing healing…
They are completely removing the concept of “abilities” and making damage from weapons stronger. I am pretty sure ow2 is turning into a shooty shooty, dps oriented game.
The only “New” hero we know that is confirmed in OW2 is Sojourn who is another DPS hero. They are turning Doomfist out if the dps role taking away his cc abilities and turning him into a tank.
I have said for months, all characters in OW 2 are DPS and no one believed me. That is the current design philosophy, so I feel bad for Mercy players as they will be left out in the cold particularly. “Tanks” will just be thicc DPS, Supports will resemble the most pure old OW characters with some utility left over.
Yep - smooth-braining the game down for 12 year-olds to understand and play on mobile. People think this genericization is some progressive move, like removing the sexual overtones in WoW; no its just to convert all of the past Blizz properties as they can ultimately move to mobile. Literally, all any of this is.
Show me where it was advertised that way.
Or where a developer said that.
Because I can show you where it is advertised in a different way and where developers have stated that OW isn’t a noob friendly fps and isn’t a moba.
If OW goes F2P i will stop playing completely and advocating for it to go under, F2P is the worst thing to happen to gaming, just turns the game into an online store
Aim is huge in an fps. Mercy is easier than Moira, she has GA every 1.5 seconds and an ultimate on cooldown resurrect. Legit pocket bot holding down right click for damage boost.
Only time will tell, but it looks like it will (become more DPS focused) to me.
And if the notion of a pure support role, that doesn’t focus on doing DPS like Mercy, is a nonstarter for OW2, then the game won’t be for me. It’ll still be a cool game, just the focus won’t be one that brought me to OW. But times change, tastes change, and the player base changes, so it goes, so be it. Bad for me, but good for others.
If WoW is any indication, then Blizz has no qualms about completely redoing systems and play styles for characters. It’s why I stopped playing it after years. So I don’t see why they wouldn’t do it here as well for OW if they want to.
This would not be a bad thing, if all roles become more independent and self sufficient.
The changes so far does not paint a picture where everyone wold be more self sufficient.
I question do players want team play to be like other shooters where you on a team, but not really since every one is doing their own thing, like Battlefield.
You know that team based fps shooters like Battlefield rely on team play to be successful at the game and win right? Or maybe you don’t and just assume.
When you are capturing points in Battlefield with your squad or team, the side that has the better team play and strats wins.
Teams that are more successful are the teams teams that are resurrecting players, supplying players with ammo and health, providing their team with utility spotting out the enemy team with their gadgets, creating spawn points for your teammates, taking your teammates as quickly as you can to the capture points on vehicles, etc, etc, etc.
You have very little experience with other team-based first person shooters if you think otherwise.
I have played it and it usually just comes down to whichever team had the better killers. Everyone runs in different directions, where some would come together to capture a point, but no one agrees on which one to try to take or keep.
Sometimes I find myself almost alone trying to take a point. Then there are players who do not care about points and are playing their own way.
I tend to play the medic and try to help, but it seems inconsequential.
Like 5 could try to take B while other thinks its best to go to other one and then there are players who go camping play style with snipers.
Well there is that type of thing in every game. You have random people trying to solo carry. Some can do it others can’t.
Jumping in from time to time and just mess around on the maps and vehicles is not a good gauge to experience what good gameplay is in those types of games.
Teams that try to play as a team as much as possible are the teams that usually end up winning versus the ones that have the most players that just run around doing their own thing.
The beauty in those games is that you also have a chance to solo carry or if you have two or three people that are getting a lot of kills they can actually make a difference.
You have both those things , solo carry potential and also team play.
I’m OW , you don’t have that and I’m glad they are trying to address that for OW2.
With the latest set of playtest and dev comments, they mention that supports actually feel like the most powerful and impactful role in 5v5 at the moment in the alpha.
