Because her hitbox is 2X the size of other heroes. Thats why she dies easy.
And her being the best projectile is debatable.
Well, I don’t disagree that Widow is a high skill character. I don’t disagree with her being rewarded as such either.
However, I do think more counterplay options would be great. As a DPS main, my only real options are to try and out-snipe the widow as widow or pray that I can pull Genji out and get value as him.
The characters that do give Widow a hard time are pretty weak right now. No character has the range to pressure her. Hitscan Hanzo used to be a pretty good counter pick, but with his slower arrow speed he can’t contest her.
I can understand the frustration with her. She’s always been an incredibly strong hero.
i think its more so the fact that she flies and has wings that count as her hitbox.
the flying and air mobility echo has makes her a nuisance for pretty much every projectile dps.
who deals with that kit best… lets have a big think here.
Echos worst matchup in the game is ashe, who is also the best dps in the game so Echo is constantly being kept in check. widow is easier to deal with considering she doesnt kill you on her first shot as that goes for pretty much everyone that isnt a tank. she is much more exploitable than ashe and less forgiving.
also bap has been meta for the past few months and he deals with her incredibly well and if he gets nerfed on top of him not being meta then thats 1 less threat to echo.
shes in the same boat as cree, not bad by any means but the best options leave such a disparity from the solid options.

And her hitbox is big not just on her head , its big on her whole body and wings, etc. The area under her wings is the most problematic.

Overwatch is not like other fps games, 1 kill can lead to a fight win, getting sniped in team deathmatch is so insignificant to the overall outcome of the match no one complains.

How are they being toxic bringing up issues they have with the game. Almost all of the forums is complaining about X being, if you want to argue that isn’t correct and that she’s balanced fair enough.

If overwatch had comparable hitboxes to every other fps then I’d have less issue with widow. OW has the most generous hitboxes I’ve ever seen in a multiplayer title.
Specifically by making posts like I describe. The posts unabashedly calling for nerfs that would hurt the character just to make their lives easier.
Its toxic to rehash the same threads saying skill is irrelevant and down talking anyone who disagrees or just wants to state the facts. Its also toxic to come to the General Discussions saying a character should be nerfed because they “might” be oppressive in a specific rank in comp.
Now, clearly I’m just speaking from my opinions here, but I genuinely do think its toxic to make the same tired old posts about widowmaker just because you got headshot by her while ignoring all the effort it takes to learn how to consistantly headshot. Feel free to disagree.

Snipers typically dont:
1.Have Mobility (zipline)
2. Have unlimited ammo
3. Have half map sight lines
4. Have a literal Wallhack
5. Have antiflank measures (venom mine)
6. Have virtually no recoil
Widow is not a normal sniper. Vinessa from Paladins is how you do snipers in a hero shooter.

Others find Widow, like you may find others, to be terrible to play into and have an outsized impact on the game. So of course they want her to toned down.

There isn’t a single person on the planet who thinks that one-hit-kill snipes are exclusive to Widowmaker. I’m never sure what your kind of statement is ever meant to do besides appeal to tradition.
Yes they do. I have played dozens of FPS shooters through out the last decade.
Unreal they have a translocator (better version than Sombras, no cooldown restrictions).
TitanFall 2 has grappling hooks that Snipers use.
You can rocket Jump in Quake, UT and do 360 no scopes or scoped kills from the air.
All better or equal mobility to what Widow has.
This one ill give you. But arcade type FPS shooters make is easy to find ammo.
Battlefield snipers can snipe you from a literal mile away, even more. There are achievements to getting super far sniper kills. The size of battlefield maps maps make the OW one look laughably tiny.
This goes for other games as well like Apex, certain UT maps, etc.
Several Snipers from other games have this as well. Like BF4’s recon gadget , also motion sensors, UAV’s, etc. all tell you and your team of the enemies location just like Widows ultimate.
lol venom mine sucks compared to c4 and claymores that snipers from other games can use, besides other types of traps.
Again all the games i listed which are more in the vein of being arcade FPS shooters like Battlefield, COD, UT, Quake, Titanfall, CSGO, etc… also have little to no recoil.
You and “Disco” are confusing all FPS snipers and trying to use 1 or 2 games that use ultra realistic mechanics for snipers. Like Sniper Elite or whatever other military simulator that makes snipers behave like in the real world, with recoil, slow movement, flinch, heartbeat, wind , and all that. This is not the norm. Especially for all the action FPS shooters i mentioned.
So why do people act like Widowmaker is the worst thing ever that needs to be deleted from the game if Snipers that outclass Widow have excised in other FPS games before.
That is why I made that statement. People losing their minds over something that should be the norm in these games.
I really dislike Widow as both an opponent and a teammate.
The problem is Widow does nothing with teamwork. I can’t help a garbage Widow on my team and I can’t use teamwork to beat a Widow on the team. Or at least, it doesn’t matter as much as usual.
I feel like she’s really badly designed. Ashe is far better designed as a sniper. Fairer to play into and far, far, FAR less likely to be trash useless as a teammate.
I wouldnt really mind if they weren’t the only viable option for DPS

Compared to all of the other characters, Widowmaker’s sniper rifle is the easiest gun to use to make headshots across the map.
- It has a scope
- It is hitscan with unlimited range
- And does about as much damage as a Junkrat grenade
With this last point in mind, consider this: Imagine I set up a shooting gallery of all sorts of targets out in the distance and you’re playing as Widow. It’ll be pretty easy to just line up your reticle on the targets and pull the trigger, right? Now let’s imagine that you try shooting the same targets again, but this time you’re Junkrat. How will it go down? Well, players will find themselves having to shoot several shots in order to find the right spot that lines up with the grenades trajectory. The first few shots might be too high or too low, but it’ll most certainly take players more shots to hit the targets as Junkrat versus Widowmaker.
Honestly, I think it’s pretty disingenuous to think Widowmaker takes more skilled at winning in sniping duels versus a McCree or a Torbjörn. Looking at Torb:
- He has no scope
- His gun shoots projectiles that fall the further distance it travels
- He doesn’t have the ability to one shot Widow from across the map
- His critical hitbox is much larger than Widow’s
Despite all of these deficiencies, it’s pretty remarkable how these elitist types act as if a Widowmaker with all of these advantages is super skilled for sniping a Torb, while if the Torb wins the sniping duel, he gets written off as being “braindead” and not needing any skill to get kills despite having numerous disadvantages facing a Widow across the map.
Getting headshots as Widowmaker is like using a GPS to find people during a game of hide and seek. The sniper rifle acts as a red carpet rolled out for the Widow and is outfitted with all sorts of nifty tools and power that make one-shotting easier than ever. If you regularly one-shot enemies as Widowmaker, there’s no reason to feel as if it is an accomplishment, because it is so much easier to aim with Widow’s rifle versus Junkrat’s grenade launcher or Torb’s rivet gun.
