You’re suppose to do a 180 when you jump, than another 180 when you land if you want to jump WM. This prevents wm from being able to hs you.
The principle is the same when you’re getting ice, turn around and look down to make it harder to get hs.
Well it’s something I still don’t do, so I don’t expect many player to do it too.
I would like Blizzard to add a very strong sniper counter (Hammond and D.va are not) which could change the game where there is a godly Widowmaker.
No it wouldn’t especially not in this game where only 3 characters can shoot back at her as easily as she can shoot at them. Instant charge time would be massive for her and if she had de scope it would be an excuse to put a little more power into her smg so she’s not a free kill.
Like I don’t understand the devs thinking. In a game there 95% of the characters are projectile and are designed to primarily fight at close to.medium range, why is the only true sniper hitscan?.
Then the only two hitscan that don’t one shot that can hit her as *easily have damage fall off and have to ping her 4+ times to kill her.
I’m in Plat and smurf and regular widowmakers are extremely annoying. It seems like they are in every game. Idk what we should do so I’ll just leave that to the people in gm and masters and stuff. As for hanzo I think you would knock out 65% of the players if you took away storm arrows or nerfed it into the ground.
where is your evidence to prove any of your claims?
they’re both almost 50% winrate and their pickrates are right in the middle. they’re good if the player is good and they’re bad if the player is bad. they are balanced

You can’t just say “a character is balanced because they have 50% winrate.”
If a character is OP, and every team runs it, the character will still have 50% winrate.
Now widow’s pickrate isn’t universally higher than other characters, but you have to look at another aspect of pickrate and winrate:
Win/pick rates across different domains in the MMR spectrum.
If a character is never picked in bronze and silver, but picked a lot in master/GM, then the character’s global pickrate could very much be around the average, but on high level play the character is over-represented, which is an indicator of possible imbalance.
The same can be applied to winrates. Bronze and silver widows likely do not contribute enough to the teamfight for them to have a 50% winrate at that play level. Then on master/gm the hero’s teamfight contribution is extremely valuable, giving them an above 50% winrate against comps without that hero. Again we see a global winrate of 50% but the hero is OP on master/GM.
OK. Widow is not OP. And believe me, I hate Widow, coming back from spawn BOOM there’s a Widow waiting for me and I’m dead again. But she’s perfectly balanced, her escape has a long cool-down and to do full damage she has to be scoped in - making her slow and vulnerable. If she lands a shot on me at close range then she’s just good, it’s annoying but I won’t cry about it.
Hanzo, on the other hand, isn’t balanced. Unlike Widow, he can output full damage with full mobility and sight lines making him difficult to duel close and long range. Two body shots and you’re dead. His storm arrows are also incredibly frustrating. His leap should be on a higher cool down, like Widow’s hook. His storm arrows should do less damage and not be able to head shot and he needs some movement restriction when using a fully charged shot. Being able to load a shot, climb up a wall and fire it is not balanced.
Widow is very powerful in high ranks and very weak in low ranks. Nerfing body shot damage will make it even worse.
This seems like a very harsh nerf.
Snipers will not go away from the video games. And so does the people who like to play snipers. If a sniper cannot kill a target with one shot then that’s not really a good sniper rifle is it?
I think a more suitable change is, making her more versatile. ( not like Hanzo ). And reduce the strength of her niche in some way.
Anyone going to bring up GM statistics for the snipers?
Widowmaker
Pick-rate: 5.01% (10th highest)
Win-rate: 54.50% (13th highest)
Hanzo
Pick-rate: 3.42% (13th highest)
Win-rate: 52.91% (21st highest)
They are fine, even in GM!
Ive noticed its those of us in the middle of the road that struggle with widow the most, shes too easy to counter with ANYBODY AT ALL in bronze, but the level of counterplay when you look at Pros make her seem avarage.
Its when you are gold/plat/diamond she feels her most frustrating to face. Because shes good enough to secure kills but your team still doesnt have the coordination or skill to counter her.
Where did this misconception originate from?
If you look back at the history of FPS games, Snipers have never been slow or fragile – they’ve had average movespeeds on par with rifles, they’ve had average health pools, and they’ve always had backups that override the need for an escape (in the form of a secondary weapon or explosive).
Even with bullet drop and ghillie suits, sniping is still decidedly average in mobility and health.
Even in single player games, they’re the most mobile characters in the game with tons of options.
Snipers were always power weapons, highly coveted, and in the hands of a skilled player were their ace in the hole in a duel.
So again, where is this myth coming from? I don’t understand…
Said this before and I’ll say this again… Widowmaker and Hanzo are only as good as they are because they can contest enemies from long ranges while most other heroes cannot. If you were to buff the rest of the cast just a little, you’d weaken Sniper characters, but have a slightly more “balanced” game.
I agree with the bodyshot nerf, it would mean that snipers would have to be accurate to get proper rewards out of their kit, maybe a 100 for widow and 110 for Hanzo (meaning that healing would easily counter bodyshot spam).
Also, 2.5 sec waiting time period between fully charged shots (even if it was still 120dmg) would make her a throw pick compared to Hanzo.
Yes, one-shots are super annoying in this game, but snipers deserve it. The only way I can think of being able to truly reward snipers at long range and punish for close is to make a reverse fall off on Hanzo’s arrows (80-100 close, 130 gradually on meter distance). Widow is quite weak if dived.
No wonder there isn’t a single match without those two…
Just bring their health to 150 hp for easier killing.
No reason to keep a sniper as resistent as a trooper.
That’s the exact reason she was nerfed after not being a problem for a year.
The hook is now on a 10 second CD and Winston’s jump is 6? It’s unbelievable how easy it is to kill her now with just Genji and Winston.
This community will never be happy about any characters state.
I think Widowmaker is fine.
But Hanzo needs his projectile speed reduced by like 3-5%. His arrow is near hitscan already and it’s not right he can contest any hitscan at a distance. I’m not saying to make it the same slow speed it was before the speed buff, but it needs to be a little slower.
Reverse falloff would be a nice thing for those 2, because it’s a pretty terrible feeling to get 1 shot at 5 meters by a pro Widow in your face or one dropping on you from above
As a over hundred hours widow main (check this acc for proof if need be public profile 4 lyfe) I agree. I’ve started moving more from Widow to Mccree these days cause atleast back in the day I’d have fun shooting Genjis. Nothing really contests Widow these days but themselves and themselves as a japanese man with a bow. Of course unless someone wants to think for a second Winston is actually good when there is so many options to other just avoid him or beat him. In my honest opinion aiming isn’t even that hard, and Widow’s positioning you can kind of just stand anywhere and be fine as long as you have mechanics (usually, not many places to stand so its kind of obvious where to snipe so positioning is pretty easy until you start really climbing). I may not be the highest of elo, but I still encounter having to swap to Widow right when the other Widow just exists.
LOL! Where are these stats from
Because GMs say she’s the most picked dps, and Widowmaker also has a 50.12% pickrate in this week’s GM according to Overbuff if we’re using stat websites xdd
Are you sure it is overbuff you are using? I mean a 50.12% pick-rate is ummm, are you sure you are reading it correctly?
My figures are from this month but they are not that dramatically different from this week either.
