I’m normally against this kind of reasoning but Sojourn is just that obnoxious that she needs to be just outright removed from the meta. It’s insane how they let her run rampant for an entire season unchanged and is probably going to be another entire season of this.
Jeff was, at the very least, open with all of us. And plenty of us still believe that Kaplan was being pushed out of the process of building OW2 due to Activision interference. I Still stand by my belief that if Jeff was still the man holding onto the reins of this game we would have been given everything that he promised. The heroes would be free, we’d have the Story mode in some respect and we’d have devs actually willing to communicate whats happening instead of only appearing when Twitch viewers whine about not getting a reward.
The fact that Overwatch stopped all content and update for 3 full years and then forced all of us to swallow a bitter pill and be a part of those glorified beta test is sickening
Didn’t he leave the first quarter-ish of 2021? If so, it’s been over 1.5 years since he’s been gone which… I could say this is what OW became in those 12+ months.
They repeatedly report to an audience that, for good reason, aren’t buying it
The scope and scale of a project like this doesn’t just change within the final 12 months.
The game was already 5v5 when he left. He was heavily hunting at Battle Passes way back in 2019/2020, too.
They buffed her because they don’t care about the game, but something else.

You have every reason to be and ironically they wanted sojourn to be a beloved character, yet they made her so busted that she’s hated across the board.
Her designers wanted Sojourn to be accessible to casual players while also having a high skill ceiling for advanced players and professionals.
“In our play tests when we play Sojourn she’s the answer,” said art director Dion Rogers. “Like if we’re not dealing enough damage, switch to Sojourn and she starts to finish people off. If healers are too protected, switch to Sojourn and she’ll deal with them. There’s a bit of flexibility in her.”
Sojourn isn’t meant to be a check against a particular style of play; she is meant to be a central, important figure.
“We created this timeline, and we wanted Sojourn — especially since she’s the first Black female character of the game — to not just be a random addition to the game,” Rogers said.
So yeah, they will not nerf her unless there’s some major backlash (apparently everyone and their sisters complaining isn’t enough).
People with this kind of thinking do not belong in the gaming industry. Characters need to be balanced and not strong because of arbitrary reasons, also people balancing them need to realize that it’s impossible to balance a hero in overwatch that’s going to have equal results across all tiers.
That’s a pretty based take from the art director, ngl.
No but srs, what in the world is that take, thankfully they are just the art director, hopefully that has little to no say on the balance team’s decisions…
But maybe if they had we would’ve have a more balanced game all things considered? New substitute lead hero designer kinda droppin the ball rn.
This was pre-release interview with Rogers and Geoff (good riddance he’s gone), it was a twitch stream.

hopefully that has little to no say on the balance team’s decisions…
Does the latest patch notes suggest that?

Does the latest patch notes suggest that?
Not in the slightest, in fact it suggested the art team is the one balancing the game right now.
Gut her? How about just balance her? No one should get gutted
Id take gutting her over whatever this was in a heartbeat. Considering they clearly dont know how to balance her I think they should gut her and slowly buff her back up because I’m tired of having her in every single one of my lobbies.

Gut her? How about just balance her?
She’s a must pick dps. Gutting her is balancing her. She’s wildly overpowered and needs to either completely lose crit on railgun outside of ult or every other part of her kit severely nerfing. All of it.
Can we all stop pretending that slaps on the wrist will change anything?
I think someone already pointed this out but…
This is way too funny when compared to Sym.
For every buff, Sym gets like 3 compensatory nerfs. With Sojourn, for every 1 nerf you get like 3 compensatory buffs…
In QP this is exacerbated by the fact that all the Rams feel pretty squishy. As a support I’ve not only got to struggle to keep Ram alive, but also I’ve got to make sure that everyone is now on absolute maximum health at all times. If someone has so much as a paper cut, Sojourn can slip-slide on in and merk someone in one railgun shot. Ugh.
While i do think this is a net-nerf for the ceilling, at the same time , for some dumb reason, its a net buff for the average lvl, thats not what she needed, shes just overtuned and skilled, thats why her stats are bad on the low skill end, how in the world do they miss that so hard?

40m is very high range. Ashe fall off starts at 30m, for instance.
40m is super high for a very mobile hero. Look at the fall off for Soldier and Cassidy. How does Sojourn who also has an easy mode snare have such long range as well?
No one is pretending anything.
My point still stands. No one should get gutted, every hero should be somewhat viable.
Just because you don’t like the hero, doesn’t mean she should become unviable.
Sometimes characters are so broken (like then) that gutting is required to get them to balanced but still viable states.

My point still stands. No one should get gutted, every hero should be somewhat viable.
She’d still be viable if she couldnt crit with railgun outside of ult.
She’d still be viable if her slide cooldown was doubled.
She’d still be viable if her disruptor did zero damage.
Gutting her is balancing her because of how massively overpowered she is.
