not exactly. those are the names we knew the characters as, through the video intros to the game etc.
Hammond was teased as Hammond for months, and now at the last moment they call him wrecking ball… obviously people will never identify him as such, after calling the hero Hammond for months in advance

They probably would of just called him Wrecking ball. If it was harder to figure out the character. The name gave too much away.

I completely agree with OP. Hammond just seems to fit the character way better.
What doesn’t make sense about it? Wrecking-ball is obviously his junker arena name. Aesthetically, its not a very appealing name, and since PTR is basically a post-release beta for additions, hopefully they have a little more pride in what they call their upcoming hero before he hits live servers. We really don’t need miley cyrus memes in overwatch.
I think Hammond going by his call sign is normal, but wrecking ball is so plain.
There’s no reason to change his name, when that’s what he’s called in his origin trailer, in the dev update and his bio.

Yeah, it doesnt matter that the other characters doesnt know his name “right now”, Winston knows his name, they can learn his name, and “Wrecking ball” being a codename doesnt mean anything now that he is fighting alongside everybody even appearing above the ball. He is not in secret anymore, and we can all consider they already know his name at this point. Or even if not, the other characters calling him “Ball” doesnt mean we need to call him that way too. He has a name, and calling him “Wrecking ball” makes it hard to connect to him, cause we barely see him, we only see the ball. Give the character that controls the ball a proper name.
