Why the "Rainbow" icon is problematic and disappointing

Did they actually state this was their goal? I can’t remember that

Seriously, does anyone even read much less care what name is attached to an icon or or spray in the game? Even if you named it “Pride”, the Leprechaun People’s will see this as its original representation, theirs. It’s all that really matters, what people themselves see it as.

Indeed they did. And here we are today lmao :EDIT: well, inclusive, which is basically the equivalent of that in the context they’re using it. (whats in OW, as opposed to who is making OW).

It only means something if you make it mean something.

It’s on the PLAYER to get off their backside and make it mean something (that’s hopefully positive). Blizz can call it Pride, excluding all other uses for it and everyone can pat themselves on the back but it does no good. It’s just “Oh, we get to own the rainbow, yay!”

You don’t get to own the rainbow. You get to promote the values that you want the world to adopt if you can be bothered to do so. So go out and do it, but don’t try and take the rainbow in the process, it’s not going to happen.

Blizz have done this in the correct manner. I can’t fault them at all.

Didn’t they ask for a rainbow…

When you expect people to take personal responsibility for something, you are these days probably asking a bit much… Honestly, some people will think it just represents Skittles…

I see no problem with that. :yum:

why does it matter if everyone in the game knows your gay, is that going to help you win matches?

i never said that it does. i’m saying that it’s weird that they made that decision.
rainbow is known to be the symbol for the lgbt community.
june is pride month of the lgbt.
rainbow + june is really used to imply the presence of lgbt content.

so not calling it “pride” when that’s what it’s implied to be is a bit foolish and self defeating, seeing as though they aren’t bold enough to call it pride and tell ppl about it but bold enough to add it to the game quietly. it really does feel like a grab for brownie points rather than actually celebrating pride like how Apex and Valorant has.

i‘ll still use it tho. just saying the reasons other ppl don’t like it.

You could have nothing :man_shrugging:t3: Or be from a country where they execute you for being gay.

See, the rainbow has formed its own meaning from my understanding of what this movement is trying to promote. I take the bits that I like from it, about equality and acceptance and run with it. That’s what the rainbow now means to me. It might not completely align with other peoples definition but that’s the way I roll. I form my own ideology from pulling bits and pieces from what I observe during my time on this rock.

Especially when dev have been wearing pride shirts in the past I’m pretty sure there’s a pride shirt and pride button in overwatch and yet this happens

Reeeeeeee give me more

So several gay characters is not enough for representation. Rainbow icon everyone asked for is not enough for represenation. I guess next step is to change the whole lore and make everyone gay? Will that be enough?

Btw I asked it somewhere else, but no one answered. What is the difference between regular rainbow and a pride rainbow? You really need to hijack rainbow to make it “yours”?

lmao, some people still believe Blizzard cares about the community and not about $$$
