I could be wrong but isn’t a rainbow the most representative pride icon/symbol?

personally i think a gradient would be better as it eliminates borders between each colour. it would better represent a spectrum which is just my opinion

i did a google images search and i can’t see the difference

there are multiple image variations but the colours look the same

i would also note that pride flags are not labelled as such. why do you need a label to tell you that it is such?

Quietly adding a “Rainbow” icon is not good representation. Blizzard refusing to even call it “Pride” is a silent nod to the LGBT+ community without risking liability by pissing off the homophobes.

Overwatch was meant to be diverse in the way most people use the word diverse when talking about media

it was literally not meant to be. as in that was not the primary goal. and certainly in my opinion should not be the primary goal. goal should be interesting and unique characters rather than filling a diversity quota.

I think it’s really interesting that people think that diversity was the goal of the Overwatch team when it was not.

What we cared about was creating a game and a game universe and a world where everybody felt welcome.

Really what the goal was, was inclusivity and open-mindedness.

We wanted there to be this feeling - and I’ve talked to a lot of people about this and I think they’ve agreed with it - that you might be from somewhere that we haven’t represented yet in Overwatch but you could imagine there being an Overwatch hero or an Overwatch map from your area.

It seems totally plausible.

It seems like at any time I could be represented in the game.

It’s the sort of open mindedness and inclusivity that were the goal of Overwatch.

I think diversity is a beautiful end result that you get when you embrace inclusivity and open-mindedness.

it is a flippin’ rainbow.

The pride rainbow is different to a regular rainbow. Originally the pride flag had 8 stripes and currently it has 6 (with some alternatives like the progress pride flag which still features the base 6 stripes), while regular rainbows have 7 stripes of colour.

The rainbow icon in-game only has 6 stripes, so no it’s not just a regular rainbow it’s the pride flag.

i would actually like you to do that and also examine the follow up part about LGBT. very interesting and very illuminating

this is the part i find very interesting:

“Reflections” happened to reveal that Tracer had a girlfriend at home, not a boyfriend like some people expected. This is all part of what we on the overwatch team just think of as, normal things are normal, and it’s important to show normal things as normal so they become more normal.

A lot of people had expected other characters to maybe be representative of the LGBT community and maybe it wasn’t tracer. To us what was important about tracer was that she was this badass time-traveling hero first and foremost.

in other words people at that time already expressing dissatisfaction at there not being more representation. Jeff makes very clear that is not their focus

How about you see it from the other end of the spectrum. You are making a big deal out of something so insignificant. Making it seem like Blizzard is basically Hitler for not giving you what you want. “This is a problem”, “that is a problem”. No. None of these things are actual problems and no reasonable or sane person would see them as such.

You’re complaining about the name of an icon. The name of an icon. You’re not being discriminated, you’re not being harassed or excluded or treated differently by Blizzard. Your “problem” is a joke.
