Probably propped up by Blizz. Why?
Business move. Instead of conducting their own PR or addressing ingame issues they are trimming the stems of bad pieces then adding in buds. To fight the anger and toxicity circulating in the game right now.
Why support though?
Supports represent a lot of positive things in game. They are seen as positive helpful heros who cater to others, which is highly the opposite of the reality we live in. They personify the basics of teamwork and thus promote the game by just existing with the support title.
Its far from the truth though as many toxic supports can choose who dies first and who dies last. Many ignore healing trying to get high dps scores or some just want to troll and go for that sweet boop on an enemy to watch them fall to their death. Many times I have seen a support who would state “No heals for you.” Just due to petty annoyance, or they hate someone’s hero pick.
Supports are as toxic as any other toxic player in adjacent roles.
This misconception that they are seen as the “least toxic” role is so falsified that experienced hackers specifically play only supports to remain undetected by others.
After all they have some of the most OP gamechanging abilities, ultimates, and have the capacity to be just as good as many in the dps roster in damage.
If Blizz had actually kept supports in a fair power level instead of buffing them to Kiriko standards we would have less cheaters and the game experience would feel much more rounded out rather than this questionable mess they consider “quality gaming.”
