Why most of players keeps theyr profile as private?

Why do you keep your profile as private ? Do you have something to hide or do you shame something ?

Im just curious

So people on the other team can’t look at what I play the most and counter me before the teams even see each other.

And because there’s always the guy on your team who will sneer about ā€œomg we have an x main, ggā€ before the match even starts.

3 Reasons.

  1. I don’t want people to see my 500 hours on Lucio because in the past people have asked me why I’m playing other healers or off-rolling. Recently I got bored of playing him so I started flexing on every role. (Baptiste is my Favorite)

  2. I don’t want people to have high expectations for me in casual modes because I’m GM.

  3. I got 4375 90% WR with Brig one season and I felt like I didn’t deserve it.

Or because new players since it was invented dont know about private being the default.

Well i had to admid that i haven’t even think like this ever, but you have a fair point.

What i thought is that persons hide their profile to keep toxicity as minimum as possible, but isn’t that time gone ?

Example personally i don’t play meta, i main Rein mostly and what i have heard from friends Rein is not even ā€ the Tank ā€ anymore and i have open profile where all can see that i have like ~300h as Rein, but i don’t even remember when someone have asked me to change to Hog or Winston or Zarya or what ever is that meta right now.

I have it public most of the time but I sometimes set it to private so the guy picking last with a private profile feels like an idiot.

Information is power and I have tryhard comp mindset using any kind of advantage. I often use checking enemy team profiles to get information, but I want to prevent them to get the same from me too.

It helps against toxicity toward chosen heroes only partialy. I had occasions being called ā€œXX hero one trickā€ with closed profile and even with open profile having like 20 minutes on the hero. Some players are just incredibly dumb and for them its not switching== you are one trick.

I have this account on private mostly to troll some individuals with my top500 icon in plat lol

So I can’t call hackers out when they have 1 hr play time on widow and a 50% scoped critical hit accuracy :unamused:

easier to sh*** talk behind a private profile

Two reaaons:

  • I just dont feel like dealing with dumb teammates in game who think profiles are some sort of holy gospel that will tell you everything about the game you’re about to play.

  • It’s a little funny seeing so many people complain about private profiles around here.

Consider the flip side.

You have 300 hours on Rein, so if you try playing anyone else, people will assume you’re throwing because ā€œRein is all you know how to play.ā€

This is what it was like pretty frequently bedore private profiles became a thing. A lot of times the meta is irrelevant, people just like to think they know you better than you.

There is ā€œsomeā€ truth to that.

I’ve had my profile open since I started playing

Nobody has ever commented on it at all. In fact, 99% of the insults and shiiii talk I get is about things that could prove them wrong just by looking at my profile

It is not about shame. It is about people wanting to main someone else when the new season begins, so people do not get any backlash for switching heroes instead of sticking to the one they’ve played before, since the meta changes as well as buff and nerfs so it is not uncommon to switch your mains for the new season.

And apart from all that, no one needs any additional toxicity in their games due to their hero choices.

Because it is private by default?

What latency said. It’s private by default, and many either don’t know or care. It’s none of your business anyways.

I keep it private while playing comp because you’re at a disadvantage if the enemy knows your hero pool before the game starts.

While that sounds like tactical genius, that’s a largely ineffective ā€œtacticā€, & at worst is disadvantageous for one-tricks or for one fight until you ultimately switch.

I’m not a fan of private profiles, I’m avidly against them existing, but I don’t throw a hissy fit when I run into them either. But believing it provides you any meaningful advantage just seems ignorant. No offense to your character of course.
