She really doesn’t counter them, maybe annoys them but not counters. Mainly because Genji can always dash away and Tracer can always blink away.
If her Freeze denied movement abilities it would be a different story all together.

You know what’s ALWAYS better than freezing someone and taking them out of the fight for 2 seconds?
Sending them back to the respawn for like 15 seconds.

Yeah, I’ll give you that, but still, it takes VERY high skill to use it correctly, or very low skill enemies, and same thing with good Meis, if you watch Jardio, he uses it BEAUTIFULLY. Oh, and Poko admittedly is a dva bomb god.

Mei’s primary fire is awful at the professional level against dive because Genjis and Tracers will use their cool downs carefully in order to give themselves a backup plan. Mei actually stinks against dive, especially at the pro level. She was great in the triple tank days because she could cut certain heroes off because they were generally not very mobile. She can’t do this against dive because these heroes are super mobile and cutting them off from the group often isn’t the best way of dealing with it.

Mei has been buffed recently but like I said, it was the wrong buff for her. Freezing multiple people doesn’t help anything at all.
Mei NEEDS to shut down mobility.
Its so funny because they created Brigitte to STOP dive and honestly, I think Brigitte just helps the dive comp.
But this whole time there has been an anti-dive hero already in the game, but they dont want to buff her because people complain that she is no fun to play against. (newsflash: Briggite isn’t funt to play against either with a stun every 5 seconds)

But no one is willing to play her that way (or play any hero to protect the healers, for that matter).
Mei is pretty great and can be a one-mei-army is played well. Unfortunately DPS slots are in high demand and she’s not quite great enough to give up a Tracer, Soldier, or Junkrat for.
Lets take the different parts of her kit.
Mobility ruins her. If all the people you are fighting can dash / blink / run / shield etc their way out of the freezy beam, then it isn’t something you are going to get often.
Let me sum up the icicle gun.
- She does the least damage per game of any DPS.
- She does the least damage per game of any of the Defence.
- She does the least damage per game of any of the Tanks.
- She does less damage per game than some of the supports.
- it is hard to use, and it also has falloff.
That pretty much sums up the icicle gun.
Ok, so her self healing, it is kinda ok, but it is more useful to bait out abilities. Except she can be bashed / hooked / stunned / killed out of her Iceblock. Making it dangerous to use.
If you stay in it too long, you will get more than one hero around you, and it is over - it takes you out of the combat, and takes a long time to heal you.
Her walls are good, but, they are on a longish cooldown, and destroying them early doesn’t make one bit of difference to when you will get the next wall.
Her ult can be walked out of, and it can be cancelled in every way an ult CAN be cancelled. deflected, eaten, Mei killed after it is cast. etc. It doesn’t do a lot of damage on its own, so needs people to follow up. Any mobility ruins the ult.

Mei is balanced around her wall and no one uses it correctly.
Yeah, because her pick rate was good before that. it is however another nail in the coffin.
It is not enough. It is not that it is used badly, it is that it is ALL she has. You can get a wall isolating the tank every time they push, but, it doesn’t mean you win the fight.
Say your team kills the tank. Now you are 0.5 a team member up rather then 0.5 a team member down.
You do no damage overall as Mei. That is a HELL of an obstacle to overcome.

She’s decent against dive due to the fact you literally can’t dive hero because of her Cryofreeze but in terms of DPS Winston’s barrier screws her over, in fact it screws everyone over.
Because she doesn’t duel well against any DPS at their preferred ranges.
She doesn’t have ambush mobility to engage at her preferred ranges.
And she doesn’t have enough value to outshine other offtanks.
And her Ultimate kinda sucks.
