Thing about widow, is that you dont see her most of the match usually, as its a hero on the backline.
So people not notice her part in the game more offten even than with supports. (teammates, enemies do see you tho)
So if they are not reminded by kill feed that widow is there every 4s, they forget widow is doing anything.
Cus its a low skilled hero, you can sit in the backline and drink coffee while killing.
Never need to fight 2-3 people while shooting/posisioning/healing and dodging.
Everything threat needs to come at you, and widow never need to engage.
The only thing you need is aim, and thats it.

The most important thing on Widow is to get a kill as soon as the match starts, preferably in the first 5 seconds, which is very doable with some grapple shenanigans. It’s something your team will not forget, even if you suck later.

I’ve had this happen to me too. I’m hitting shots just fine while the fight is going, get entry picks on an enemy support multiple times even, “this widow sucks” like, no. I’m sorry you can’t push as a team after I get support kills, leaving them at a pretty big disadvantage. No need to blame me.
Enemy team even said I was the best player on our team which probably isn’t saying much, but it wasn’t my fault.

Well, in this case, the team might have actually done better if you’d been playing a DPS more able to apply frontline pressure and keep heat off the tanks.
Because you are a competent Widow doesn’t mean Widow is what the team needs right now.
dps is not supposed to just do damage, theyre either farming ultimate or blocking off certain part of the map
a junk that does not kill even with his riptire is a useless junkrat who is feeding enemy support players ult charge, if junkrat does not kill quick enough then enemy ana will will get nano 3 times as fast as yours
i usually pick widow for the first point on attack payload maps (like kings row) for this very reason. no one is expecting you (unless you give yourself away in spawn by randomly shooting) so i try and land some key shots so we can quickly take the point. if i die im right back into the action since spawn is near first point
i usually switch right after first point since im not confident in my widow skill to contribute to the whole game. also usually the enemy switches right away to try and counter me
On maps like Kings Row, I ALWAYS expect a widow at the first point. Spots like the window are ideal for snipers.
I am rather surprised if there is NO Widow.

To be fair every one likes to go on Widow is a high skill hero… if you pick her and do not produce results that is your fault. Widow provides very little to her team other than kills. She has nearly no utility, rarely if ever contest a point.
She can’t heal other like Soldier, block attacks or teleport or any the other things DPS do. Heck she can’ even kill anything with her ultimate. It just provides a slight wall hack ability that only last as long as she stays alive…
Widow’s entire kit is geared towards scoped head shots. If you can’t do that, you really should pick something else.
I think it depends, elims dmg dont matter as widow, the key is not only picks but early picks, sometimes i will see a widow get a couple picks after fight is over esp on defence attack team will just rg and attack.
people shouldnt be toxic to you whatever the case though.
But often when people ask swap its either you arent applying the pressure as widow holding good los and picks.
The reason being lets say enemy has dive heros you by being a cree will just be a threat when you are with the team and make job for the enemy dive harder, cause every dive hero will be thinking is the flash out, this will give comfort for your tanks and support than say a widow, who you have to be real good to secure that early pick on the dive heros cause other wise your supports are dead etc.
Widow is a OP hero in all earnest its just most population isnt OP with her nothing wrong in getting good with widow, but unlike other heros were playing the game improves you on the hero, with widow its aim training you either have it or dont have it. There is no inbetween.
And im a dps main and a flex main i play genji a lot so i know a lot about how toxic people get, just ignore them if you know its unfair. But always give a thought to why they are complaining.
The mistake is that the widow isn’t duo Qing with a symmetra. That way even if she does mess up Sym still gets the blame and Widow slips under the radar

Because you don’t have a Sym, Sombra, Bastion or Tracer on your team.
As a former tank (uninstalled) widow is a hit or miss in many cases. Often a miss.
The reasoning is her value is harder to find outside the very top ranks. In those ranks they coordinate and the Widow can be trusted to be a threat.
In lower elos her not popping off means it’s essentially a 5v6 with me the tank getting pressured into oblivion (if they have two competent dps). She doesn’t shield break, she doesn’t CC, she doesn’t contest. All she has is kills which means people except that from her.
Frankly, the thing I hate most is a Widow that can’t get kills when it matters. You have a team fight and you lose with the widow getting no kills. Then after everyone dies she gets a support and dps. “I killed 2! Why we not win that fight?” As your entire team waits to spawn and the 2 kills she got will likely be back to the team before the next team fight will break out making them pointless.
It’s easy to get kills when the enemy team relaxes and may not fully pay attention the the Widows LOS who has missed every shot.

Because she’s not an easy character to play and get value. When you get value you’re “hacking” and no one pays attention unless you complete team wipe or are consistently clicking heads; if you’re getting dove or going up against hard shields and not producing you are partly to blame too.
Also as said, she’s a hero you need to warm up with; high end Widow mains warm up with a combination of widow HS, customs, scrims or a shooting practice game in combination of everything. Muscle memory and intelligent positioning are also crucial factors that are required by widow, and some people are just so good at it, it can be very frustrating to get them.
Positioning : Knowing your maps, knowing the best points of LOS, knowing where you can escape without being dove, quickest point of entry to escape or to your healers to save. Positioning is even more key now as to how much more vulnerable she is.
With her four nerfs and reduction in health, Widow is not as formidable as she was before; so you have to be amply aware of your surroundings. When the team focusses on you with dive and defense; you have to play even smarter and better to get any value; because every distraction is a waste of time out of your scope doing your job.
Then there’s hammond.

Yeah I know what you mean lol. I have been maining widow for the past couple weeks and I get blamed a lot even if I am doing really good
Right? Lol and now I can’t even defend myself because apparently if you try to defend yourself in chat and people report you for no reason thats grounds for suspension from chat.
Clearly blizzard doesn’t look into reports at all, so now I gotta just sit there and let both teams talk SO MUCH crap regardless of how well I actually do. I can’t say, ya know I’m not used to playing widow on this map or anything
So yeah I can stagger the enemy all I want and kill 2 people every team fight as well as damage tanks whenever I can actually help out and then get literally sworn at and harassed in chat…

Oh all you need is aim, which is the only thing that is difficult at all in this game LOL. I am guessing you probably can’t hit anything as a widow
because the widow doesnt contribute much to the frontline team fight (besides poking and long range duels) and cant peel for teammates very well, she kinda needs to get those solo kills to have value. if you arent getting alot of solo kills, then you probably have to find value in other characters to contribute to team fights. She is useful when getting those headshot instakills on squishy characters.
maybe you just need to have better target priority. if you prioritize on instakilling squishys then you would have the same amount of headshots while getting more kills.
Whenever someone picks Widowmaker, I get PTSD from that one game…scratch that, those several game with an opposing Reinhardt and Sigma.
And those shields…those shields that never broke down…
