I also argue that goats isn’t even good at low levels like allot of higher level teams would expect. In mid/low levels then the soft counters like junkrat, Mei, or reaper become crazy hard counters because focus fire, group direction, and reaction times are all over the place. A reaper behind can simply destroy a goats comp in silver-gold because they take so long to turn and have such poor focus that dm isn’t enough. Then if you go even lower then players start to never be able to stay grouped well enough to play to the comp’s strength. Even the low silvers and bronzes that understand to stay together don’t have the game sense to actually reliably keep track of the team during a hectic push.
I make Goats lfg groups at different levels, and Goat loses at low level almost entirely because of the team playing it and not the team playing against it.
I’ve learned that some people can just not play it for the life of them. No, reaper does not counter goats. Just turn and kill him wtf… No! Don’t spread out… Moria get back here your the only reason we live… Lucio stop leaving the team behind!..
I’ve slowly learned to just pretend like we’re getting countered and tell everyone to switch to a normal comp.
Because in this game tanks can deal as much damage as dps, and the ability to outheal damage outweighs basically all dps utility outside of oneshotting. Questionable design is the answer to the question tbh.
I think meta as a whole doesn’t have much effect in lower ranks due to all the chaos and the lack of organization. That’s somewhat true for the entire ladder to a degree (outside of dedicated teams), but it’s more apparent the lower you go. There are enough one tricks or near one-tricks that it’s not uncommon to see every type of comp you can imagine being run in every tier, as is the nature of SoloQ. I don’t use lfg, so I cant comment on that, but I think it’s not as much of a problem as most make it out to be. If a person wants to play a certain hero, they will, and it only becomes a problem when hard countered. That’s less of a meta thing and more about patch changes. Tracers for instance have a hard time now due to brig, but can goats be blamed on that, or is it just a brig issue? Sombra is being run a ton in the world cup, but she has one of the lowest pickrates and win rates in the game on the comp ladder.
The pro meta isn’t always being reflected on the ladder, as they’re very different things. Dive and Moth Dive were the most rigid metas in the game’s history imo, but even then, outside of mercy being in every game in every tier, dive wasn’t really run in lower tiers. Even if teams tried, they usually didnt understand it or have the coordination to make it work in lower elos, so it probably didnt work at all below maybe masters. People still complained at all levels, but the actual effect of it wasn’t really significant outside of the top tiers. It was only a problem due to meta slaves complaining about their teammate’s picks, but honestly, that’s always been a thing since launch.
Eventually, some completely new meta will come out, and currently meta hero mains will complain when their hero is no longer considered good, but they’ll probably keep playing them at a decent rate, same as before. Mercy has the 4th lowest winrate in the game right now, but she’s the 3rd most picked hero. Hog is the 2nd lowest winners in the game, but he’s still in the middle of the pack in terms of pickrate. McCree is the 3rd lowest winrate, but he’s still played quite a bit. Meta doesn’t really change things nearly as much as people claim imo.
Because Brigitte isn’t a support. Most people play her like a dps.
I don’t like that all the world cup teams are running 3-3 on KOTH maps. They aren’t even running goats it’s just random 3-3 variations.
I do like that brig allowed for more Hanzo and Widow. Tracer could be overwhelming before on both off and def. Genji especially on offense also before.
They are self sustaining, dps squishies cant do much without the support of others.
When a DPS is on your team there is a cost to keeping them in the group,
If they cant deal enough dmg or be effective the become a hinderence.
Blizzard doesn’t make the meta though, the players do.
Yes, started in Overwatch Contenders and is credited to team GOATS. Hence, the name.
The logic behind it is “More HP, More Heals; More Margin for Error”.
Basically, it is a war of attrition.
TBH, coming from a cRPG and by extension, MMORPG gaming background, i always wondered why no one was doing this when i started playing about 6 months back. Basically, it is like having a battalion of armoured vehicles rolling inexorably towards the objective…
No, i mean not everyone wants to dps.
Some ppl find them boring & just enjoy support or tank.
I enjoy playing off tanks more and I love tripple tank tripple heal comps
