“___ Needs a nerf because ___ isnt fun to play against”. Heroes shouldnt be balanced and are not balanced around the character being “fun” to play against. Most likely anyone mentions a hero not being “fun” to play against just wants them nerfed to the ground. Turn them into a squishy.
Heroes arent balanced to be “fun” to play against. Someone has to win at the end of each match/brawl, and not every match-up will be easy. Every Hero has a counter for the most part. Learn from every death and adapt. If not possible and it’s a common issue, the hero will most likely recieve a change if devs see fit. (More likely to happen when it’s frequently brought up by those in GM-Top500)
Edit: the “fun” arguements that im referring to are those that cry for nerfs simply because they havent figured out how to outskill the enemy or can’t counter play.
I dont mean when something in-game is unfair and its painfully obvious to all.
Fun is subjective but it is also measured as a way to name the “playful room for counter play” that some skills, heroes or mechanics have.
Imagine that Widow could shoot through barriers and have 50% CD reduction during her ultimate, which is a wallhack (a cheat). Whats the counter play? Hide and cry? That would be “unfun” to play against for a valid reason : Counter play.
If the counter play is WAY HARDER or scarce than the actual skill required to pull off X combo, then the “fun” argument begins.
And its a Legit one.
Hope this helps in clearing the “fun” point.
Fun is definitely the most important element in products people buy/play for fun, also known as games. While players often have a hard time identifying exact underlying reasons why something is or isn’t fun for them, knowing what people do/don’t enjoy is invaluable for developers to help make the best decisions for the game.
Good point, but for heroes with existing abilities that were like this from the get go, its funny how said ability was “ok” before, but now is “unfun”
Mass rez was the first i heard of this. Its was fine and dandy for a year when she was trash tier, the meta shifts and then “rez is not fun to play against”
Genji vs Winston or Reinhardt vs Reinhardt are just examples of fun to play against cause it’s more of a brain thing than just point and click or using a strong cooldown to shut them down.
Fun to play against is indeed an argument judging the type of game it is. There is a reason why most games don’t put most kind of abilities overwatch have into a PVP based game and, if in fact they do, they actually balance the abilities to be fit into a PVP environment, while OW just throws PVE abilities there without properly balancing them for PVP like Mei’s freezing mechanic.
That happened when the dominant strategy became for a mercy to leave their team to fight 5v6, lose the fight because they were a person down, then reset it, then do their job of participating and healing their team through the fight.
Thats the DF case. Before Sigma, everyone was ok with him. Nothing changed.
Double Shield comes in, and suddenly “HE HAS TO DIE”. And Orisa got nerfed just because Sigma’s barrier has 1500 hp and stacked are a problem.
Cool stuff.
Yeah no. Thats not the same case.
Mass res was fine when it didnt have INVUL, therefore there was counter play.
They added invul and literally was IMPOSSIBLE to counter mass ress.
Skill without counters = Overpowered = Not fun to play against.
Since the Mercy Mains were complaining that without invul it was a “death sentence” they decided to rework it. So no, not the same case.
