Why is DPS SO afraid of high ground?

  1. Walking around the fight is weird. The fight is going on over there, why am I going up around those stairs and not taking part?
  2. Shooting at an angle is hard. If I’m on level ground, I only have to move my aim in 1 dimension to keep aim at head or body level. If I’m looking up or down, a horizontal mouse movement makes an arc, so I need 2 dimensional movement to deal with A/D spam or aim at a new target.
  3. The advantage high ground has in deciding engagements isn’t as apparent. With a wall corner, it’s pretty obvious.
I turn the corner, we fight.
I back behind it, we stop.
Whoever is close to it gets to make the decisions. The ledge isn’t quite as obvious a corner, but you can do the same thing and you are right on that corner so you get to make the decisions.

Even as Mercy, the ability to use the ledge as cover from any low ground is pretty helpful
