Why is Blizzard censoring Twitch so hard

I was wondering how long it was going to take to get to some overt right-wing talking points. The answer was 7 posts.

Yeah I’m pretty sure this is where everyone goes ā€œspotted the alt-right nazyā€, nevermind I’m an Asian immigrant who is basically liberal on most topics.

But like I said, perception is reality. Rip.

Oi, I don’t even HAVE a party. I’d say you’re worse than I as you’re dismissing me as you ASSUME I hold such beliefs.

You didn’t even refute the last argument…

This is a boring conversation, full of slander, racism, generalization, and insult.

You got that right pal…

What has this world come to!?

I didn’t address your argument because a discussion of the NRA’s public relations and donation strategy is beyond the scope of this discussion.

I keep trying to center the discourse on why companies regulate consumer interaction, but keep getting pulled into individuals’ gripes about the media and why the NRA is blameless.

We’re still using Pepe as the main point here…(I only used that as an example as to WHY companies/groups do this kind of thing that Blizzard is currently doing and why it’s stupid. I don’t necessarily agree with the people I’m using as Examples…I’m just using them as examples.)

Fact of the matter is: He’s ours until we give him away, he’s not a racist symbol. (Certain forms of him are…the issue is we’re labeling ALL Pepes as evil.)

Again, you need to understand that corporations are not interested in wading through factional subtlety. They’re in it to make money, and they’re not going to make money with controversial symbols floating around. This is reality, and contrary to what you’ve been told it isn’t new.

it might have been a mistake? we really don’t know anything yall are kinda making a big deal out of it without much info.

I still think Blizzard/twitch should just remove OWL chat as a practice.

The more I think about it, the more I think it might actually work out.

It’ll piss off TONS of endemic twitch fans for sure, because they live off of that environment and interaction. But if Blizzard’s end goal is to court mainstream viewers: the players/fans of OW who know little of twitch culture and even people who don’t play OW, who just enjoy watching the competition… maybe it isn’t such a bad thing.

They’ll drive away a portion of the viewers for sure, but if they keep marketing the league as a mainstream sports-viewing package, more and more ā€œnormiesā€ will come and fill the ā€œseatsā€ so to speak. And those fans won’t mind the lack of twitch chat.

Unfortunately you’re not wrong…for now.

Tbh, it’s the PRINCIPLE of the matter. I cant care less about OWL honestly. They’ve been censoring things for a while now and something this small would be likely to happen honestly.

oh noooooo homophobic remarks aren’t allowed boohoo the most recent ā€œcensorshipā€ was a bit silly but yall are blowing it out of proportion

Cause twitch chat will do what twitch chat does which is spam the most offensive meme they can get away with.

So the first thing you do is strip out everything that can be offensive so the can only spam about harmless stuff like NA > EU

Great. ā€œSuckā€ is now homophobic?

I guess if you think about it, it could be.

A better question is, why is Twitch chat so awful?

Forcing people to act like adults for something they want taken seriously

i mean it could be used in a way that is but i wasn’t talking about that

Oh. Ok nevermind then.

Comparing Pepe to the swastika is of course quite silly, and I don’t think they were trying to make a 1:1 comparison. What sucks is terrible people trying to take a silly, innocuous little thing like Pepe and ruin it with their political drivel, n’ that…kinda happened to a degree.

TL:DR - Pepe’s a good frog, let’s hope political twits on both sides of this moronic aisle start leaving him alone.

Good. I’m glad they’re filtering out at least a small portion of the garbage that comes out of twitch chat. It’s a complete mess and it’s just full of people trying to meme and be funny, but in reality it’s just annoying.
