I think there is always a reason behind ‘irrational’ fears.
For example. Children, before the consciousness is fully developed, learns everything subconsciously. And most things learnt by the subconscious, stays in the subconscious. A baby that is dropped may grow up to have ‘irrational’ fear of heights. A baby who almost drowns may have an ‘irrational’ fear of open bodies of water. As adults the conscious minds have no idea why this happens, because it isn’t a fear learnt during consciousness, but subconsciousness.
It’s not always the source of fear. Trauma can create fear too, as trauma is often strong enough to affect the subconscious in adult life.
Saying that, they really aught to create the guild system already. It would make finding likeminded friends to play with so much easier.
Last time I got a friend request it turned out to be from the enemy Mercy who just wanted to let me know that I’m bad at the game for playing Moira before she promptly unfriended me. It was soooo fast too. She must have been hovering her cursor over the unfriend button and clicked it a milisecond after sending her message so I couldn’t even respond…

lol I have 349 friends on Xbox. Gun to my head, I’d be lucky if I remember playing with more than 15 of them.
Couldn’t say… probably around 90% of the people on my friends list sent me a request, and if I remembered them (and had room 
) I’d happily add them.
As for your case, I wouldn’t sweat it. If you send them a request and they don’t accept, it’s not like the game derides you like “haha, you got rejected!”. There could be any number of reasons why someone didn’t accept.
Just keep vibing with folks and try and add them if you get along, and eventually you’ll find your people.
this was a big major reason i stopped accepting friend requests back then. happened more than i liked. now i never get friend requests but im glad about that

I met someone who is 45 and plays OW.
Aging doesn’t necessarily mean you can not longer have fun with video games.
Mostly this kind of friend request comes after every match.
The reason?
Throw you a hard slur and leave afterwards.
From time to time I do a purge of my friendlists and delete people I forgot about. No hard feelings, if I can’t even remember how I got you on my friendlist (usually playing with group of friends, we add each other and then some people want to play more later and some don’t) then I won’t feel bad about deleting you. It’s weird to see “X player plays now” when you literaly don’t care because you don’t remember who this person is.

Agree with this. I have 78 friends on this account. No idea where all but 3 of them came from. And the 3 people I do know I never play with anymore.
So, I might as well not have a friends list at all tbh. Most online gamers have this happen to them I suspect. Or maybe everyone else is whole lot cooler than me 
Having friends requires time. Having multiple friends requires even more time. You can’t be in good touch with dozens of people unless that’s all you are doing with your life and even that has its limit. We only have so much time during the day, you can’t play with everyone and you can’t talk with everyone. Even if you are the best person on the planet and everyone likes you, it’s physically impossible to be in touch with everyone you ever met.

Also its OW, no one my list plays with any consistency at all.
Don’t blame them in the slightest. Not everyone is a masochist and willing to play this game a lot

I know-most people around here know I’m almost 50 (49 on Monday 12th).
When they find me dead in the nursing home I’ll be clutching my gaming mouse and my body will be frozen in a raging pose as Kiri 2 taps me once again in the middle of my DeathBlossom.

I remember I once added a guy in Starcraft 2 cause we won a Squadron TD match together with a certain strat. I thought we were having fun and becoming friends, then in one of the matches I messed up and he immediately raged at me and never talked to me again
Needless to say I don’t bother trying to make friends with randoms anymore
